Off Topic SHTF Bug-Out Pairs

I won’t say too much about my setups, but I will say the investment to run with night vision puts my knife habit to shame

If the S truly hit the F, I’d likely reach for these. And some zip ties.

I love rifle pics... but... um... why is the safety off?
All of my firearms muse my trigger finger as their safety.

Joking aside, the only gun I own that ever used the safety is a 1911 because 1911’s are single action and to carry with a round in the chamber means you have to carry cocked. The other 4 handguns own that get carried do not have a mechanical safety, they have de-cockers. Three of them are Sig’s so they aren’t ”cheap” or poorly manufactured, they just do not have a switch or button that disables pulling of the trigger.

I have heard people that teach the operation of an AR platform should be safety on at all times. During operation of the firearms, the users should then turn the safety selector to “fire” when ready to press the trigger, press the trigger to fire, and then return the safety selector to “safe” until the operator is ready to fire again. Rinse and repeat.

Personally, I think that anyone who owns a gun of any type should be so used to making sure they never put their finger inside the trigger guard unless they are shooting that a safety is their for redundancy but the safety itself should never have to do it’s job. I do not disagree with anyone who prefers to operate a weapon be engaging and disengaging the safety selector between targets.

My preference in these regards is to not use a safety selector switch on any firearm that I operate. By doing this and always following the same practice with every weapon I use, I always operate under the assumption that every firearm I own is loaded with a round in the chamber. Even if the weapon is empty, because I pretty much only ever pick up an unloaded firearm to loaded it an prepare if to be carried or shot, there is never a time that I would assume something I have is unloaded. The advantages I have as a result of this are that any weapon I am carrying would not need to have the action cycled to load a round or the safety disengaged before you can engage a threat. It’s not a ton of time saved, but it eliminates two steps that could possibly be performed improperly under duress. The only con I have ever really had is that *I* must always be responsible and ensure that all weapons are stored properly if other people come to my house. I would have no way of knowing what someone else’s actions might be if they found and picked up on of my firearms. But that is easily handled by proper firearm storage, and it also solves the problem of children “finding“ one.

Sorry for the long winded post, and I’m really only sharing my personally carry/storage/safety practices. I in no way intended for this post to mean that here was any problem with your comment. Firearm safety is always the most important part of gun ownership, and we gun owners should always look out for each other. ;)

SHTF? An off grid property, livestock, infrastructure and the ability to grow food. Can’t get off grid? Outgun those that have what you need, doesn’t matter how cute your pair is. SHTF all rules go out the window.

In addition, SHTF, the media gets it first.

Truer words... I have told a number of my friends that the last thing they would want to do is drive by my place with a motor home on their way out of town.
