SICAC 2009 - Paris knife show

Thanks Flava. It is nice to see what knife shows look like in other parts of the world.

Your pictures got me excited about going to a local show that the NCCA is having in Connecticut tomorrow.

Thanks for the photos. Much appreciated!
Is that photo captioned incorrectly or is that a tactical folder from Zaza?

Thank you VERY much for that comprehensive photo review. A real treat to see all those terrific knives.

Thank you, Flava, for your work. Quite an offering of knives. Many of them believe in the 'more is better' rule of sales. Hopefully, that outcome may also be the case.

An apparent difference in styles from the USA shows. As it should be. :D

Nice showing!

That's nothing, Coop. You should see Fred Perrin's table............actually, it was more like TABLES when I was there.

You did a great job in presenting the knives and the people
behind them. Thanks!

Do you have a picture of Vladimir Burkovski's table?

All the best,
David Datom (ddd)

Yep a tactical from Zaza. Lower priced than his ususal work.
It's a well made framelock, normal sized (blade a bit under 4") with S30V blade.

Flava, thank you for that most excellent post. I have wanted to attend SICAC for quite some time; it is difficult to get exposure to European makers.

Now, if you will excuse me, I gotta get some phone numbers and make some calls.....

Thanks Flava - the show completely slipped by me as I don't have knives much on my mind these days. I'm glad to see M. Blum back at knives, but his pricing seems absurd to me if that 1 pic is any indication. It's impressive to see so many knives on P. Reverdy's table!

Last year I had been most impressed by the Atelier Graveline, J.-P. Sucheras, and J.-P. Martin. Also liked Josef Rusňák & Alexandr Pospisil. (My 2008 SICAC pics can be found HERE for those interested.)

Joss, you are so right. Looks like €2400 for that little knife:(

Very nice pics, Flava and nice knives, but you expect that from a show like SICAC. How was the show in general? I ask because I was looking at the list of attendees for both SICAC and Gembloux and for the first time, Gembloux has more exhibitors this year. I seem to recall that SICAC had close to 150 tables in 2007, but this year, I only counted 109 on the last list I saw.

He Joe,

I think the lower number of table holders has to do with the latest changes of the show. The price for a table is still rising but the show is becoming shorter. This year it's on Friday afternoon and Saterday. Normally the show was a whole weekend. A few years back I've been there as a table holder and I counted 124 exhibitors.

Greetings,

Toni

Thanks Flava for posting your pictures from the SICAC 2009. Normally I'm present at the show, but this year I got grounded at home due to the flu.. So the pictures were very welcome.

Can someone post the dates for SICAC 2010 ?

Thank you for all your efforts in posting the great pix of the show. I really enjoy these types of threads. It is almost like being there. :D:D:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice show indeed. I had a long talk with Charlie Bennica about Boston show. Never heard about that before. Looks like an east coast AKI (invitational show with great makers who are NOT at AKI show).

By the way Charlie had 6 knives on his table, which is not so bad ! A beautiful folder with mother of pearl inlays, full engraved by Rizzini. Don't have any pic but it is the very first time I can see engraving on mother of pearl ! He sold the two straight knives within the first hour.

Regarding the SICAC, I've been a bit disapointed this year. Nice show as usual, but... not very exciting. I'll try Gembloux.
