I for one, am SICK of G-10!!! I can't stand the stuff anymore. I've gotten rid of all my G-10 knives, and I'll try to avoid them from here on out. Why use G-10, while you could be using Micarta? Makers, manufacturers, CUT BACK ON G-10 OR AT LEAST VENTURE OFF INTO THE LAND OF "OTHER MATERIALS!!!"

I know they have, but still...

G-10 is nice, strong, and all that good stuff, but can you imagine it on a $500 knife? Heck...no!!! Sorry, just had to vent. It just reminds me, too much of plastic.

Maybe we just need some new colors in G-10. The stuff is a great handle material, but I think most people are just fed up with the black G-10. As much as I like the stuff, I would like to see some green or blue or even blue-green. Maybe some red or white or tan.
The black G-10 has played out and is tired. It wants to retire and go bye-bye.
I think a blue-green Axis or Carnivour or Military would absolutely ROCK!

If it's stupid but works, then it isn't stupid!

Sure it would...in linen micarta.

...maybe even splattered Al. or Ti. scales.

Right on Jackyl! I like micarta alot better than g-10. Besides, g-10 is so boring why would anyone miss it. My personal preference is wood or stag, traditional styling. But, this is all just my opinion.

..and a darned good one at that.

Please notify the "engineers" at REKAT. Perhaps they will decide to make their useful neck knives instead of their folding clones.

With all the great stabilized wood available and the qualities of same, I think we should see more of that too, Jackyl you have a great point.

Tom,

I feel bad for those that have to grind it and smell/breathe it. Nevertheless, when you guys are done with it, I AM QUITE HAPPY TO USE IT

This stuff never failed me so far.

I haven’t found a finish on G-10 that I have liked the feel or look of, and won’t buy another knife that uses it for handle materiel no matter the price or color. I prefer linen and paper micarta, carbon fiber, wood, titanium and aluminum.

I agree with you that the black G10 can look pretty boring! Please check Frontiums review of my G10 Handled-Tactical in the review and testing area. G10 is still in demand with me and I try everything I can to make it grippy and visually apealing!
I WISH I had a photo ready of the Big Hunter I just finished. It's handled in black G10 that is cut into random shapes that are separated with colored spacer material. I will be doing the same thing this weekend with blue G10 and white spacer material. The end result is something that looks like the finish on that famous Eddie Van Halen guitar! I leave the finish after 400 wet sanding that provides decent grip.
I will have a picture of this knife on my website soon.

At the least manufacturers could use colors other than black. I am tired of black all the time. Titanium and aluminum are nice choices for handle material, and those can be anodized too making them more attractive IMO.
Is micarta as tough as g10?

Ah! Do I sense a shift in the winds of fashion?

K.O., Why...yes you do!

Tom, ...all the more reason to stop using it.

stjames, RIGHT ON!!!

...SOME G10 can look pretty good, and we all know that it IS tuff, and probably a good choice for the Taiwanese El Cheapos to switch to, but I'm just bored with it. Tuff or not, it may get the job done well, but it does, NOTHING for the eyes.

P.S. Be careful with that stuff Tom, Dr. Lathe.

BTW, Elishewitz's G10 looks pretty darned good, but why get that, when you could get his carbon fiber?

It all depends on how G-10 is finished.I have two knives made by Kurt Meerdink and both have G-10 handles. He finishes the material very nicely and you would think it looked like micarta.Kurt uses all different colors black, green, blue, red etc.etc.Kurt makes some awesome knives! Thanks,Ralph

I HEAR ya, Jackyl. I got rid of my 710 because the G10 resembled tire fabric. Now,
both my Spyderco Wegners did a pretty good
job with G10 but - yeah!...let's have some
style, beauty, something DIFFERENT! There
are so many alternatives, and the money we
pay...

Dear sweet God YES! I have yet to even consider a handmade knife with a G-10 handle.

I'd also like to see a moratorium on bead blasting and coatings, and a general return to lovingly crafted leather sheaths from kydex.

If you're gonna coat the blade, make it a functional coating on a fully finished blade, not just a paint job that saves the polishing time.

Regardless of how hard you've worked to create an excellent knife, you put a grey bladed, G-10 handled knife in a plastic sheath in front of me, and I see a production knife. No way you'll see custom $$ from me for it.

Tactical shmactical.
