Sick to my stomach...

I did that one time with a Bulldog stag Stockman the only thing it did was slightly force patina the blades. Luckily it stayed in the pocket through it all!

I carry my traditionals in the same pocket as my car keys, so it's pretty hard to accidentally forget about one and throw it in the wash. But I have done this with a few modern folders clipped to my pocket.

Sorry for your loss. Wait till your wife puts the wool pants from a Brooks Bros. suit in the wash.

Sorry to hear of this Erik, and can imagine how you feel. Might I suggest a consultation with Dr Glennbad?

Yes, a PM to Dr. Glennbad is certainly in order. He is quite familiar with this particular knife as he is the one who removed the wharncliff for Bob and made it a single blade.

Erik, you say the shield is loose? That's surprising as they're pinned but must assume they're glued in too? Is it too tasteless and pornographic to ask for pictures of the 'survivor' ?:D:thumbup:

Thanks, Will

I am afraid pictures wouldn't show a whole lot other than the chip. The dent in the blade would be a bear to try and capture and the rest of the issues are loose parts and cannot be photographed. I was surprised by the shield and the covers being loose. I guess I can understand the pile side because the chip is near one of the pins but there is really no reason for the presentation side to be loose.

Thank you all, I knew you folks would help me feel better and could empathize with my situation. :D I will contact Glennbad today and see what the magic man has to say.

This made me sad...but as all said I'm sure Glennbad could fix it up..

My sick stomach moment was after receiving my package of a Menefee gunstock..riding home..and then realising my front compartment on the motorcycle bag had opened up where the Menefee was. My first thought was my phone was gone..then the Menefee..but all I lost was my garage opener~

Even worse, I did it to a carbon steel Case a few years ago. Cleaned it up and oiled it and it was alright, but still scary!

Oh man! I'm sorry to hear this Erik. :( That certainly is a special knife, but I do believe Glenn will be able to take care of you.

Fortunately this has only happened with a couple of my Vic Alox's. They come out great, but I hate to think of what it would be like for some of my higher end stuff. Man I hate hearing about the damage.

Mrs. Powernoodle just ran my Streamlight Stylus Pro EDC light through the washing machine, but it came out unscathed and fully functional. Not the same thing as a beloved traditional knife, no doubt, but sometimes life happens. I hope you can get it restored to your satisfaction, and then the knife might be even more meaningful to you.

I have washed a knife before, but luckily it came out clean but unharmed! I imagine if it had stayed in the pocket it would have fared much better...

I've washed a couple, most recently a 50 year old Camillus Congress. It happens.

Looking at the bright side, if it gets into the wash it's a user, and unless it's rusted to heck and gone it's still a user. A little polish, a little oil, and back in the pocket.

Erik,
Sorry to hear about the problem you had. I have ran my SAK Cadets thru the wash on a couple of occasions. Fortunately they have always shown up still in the pocket & no worse for the experience. This will definitely have me double checking my pockets for a while. I am sure there are several folks here that can put things back in order. Hope all turns out well in the end.

I have done the same thing. My story ended a little better, though. Basically, I just oiled it back up and put it back in my pocket a little cleaner.

Now, Wendy was not as easily smoothed over as the knife. :)

You put Wendy through the wash.

:D

-- Erik, I'm sorry about your knife, and while I haven't done anything exactly like that I well know what it's like to survey damage and/or loss and be confronted with the simple reality of my own oversight/carelessness/lack of attention-- that invariably brief moment of thought that would have prevented difficult consequences.

I hope you forgive yourself more readily than I do(!).

Thanks for letting us know.

who seems to have terminally misplaced her custom Strix.

I've been lucky. With EDC numbers varying from carrying 1 to 4 at a time, the idea of them ending up in the wash has had me checking pants pockets before they go into the machine for years.

I've dropped a few in the parking lot, and on concrete mote than a few times.

Cracked the bone on a gec that way, and dinged the steel bolsters. Cracked both bone covers on a grand dad Barlow. Dropped it twice on the bare end. Same spot, same parking lot!

I have lost my custom J. OESER slip joint several times, but only for a few days at most! I keep finding it in my car. I switched from left front pocket to right and just carry my one handed folder in a different pocket. I did this so that when ths J. Oeser slips out of my suit pocket thile driving ti and from work, it has less chance to fall out thw door kf my car when it slips out of my slip sheath and pocket! I should have had him make a fold over with a flap and keeper like he wanted to make....!

Interesting you say that Bigfattyt, as I dropped the Queen Copperhead I was carrying the day before on the driveway and dinged up the bolsters. Two days in a row... Don't these things come in threes! Oh man, now I am nervous!!!

If I misplaced an Oeser I would not be able to sleep for about three days. Take care with that one!

So sorry for what happened as careful as we can be sometimes things just happen. I believe I would get in touch with Glennbad. Good luck to you.

About a month ago, I pulled up to the house and saw something in the drive way. Turns out it was my Case CV red bone peanut. I picked it up and noted that it had been run over at some point. A few nicks and chips here and there, but structurally and functionally well. Cleaned and oiled, it's none the worse for the wear.

Please keep us posted on the repairs, I hope all goes well.
