Side-by-side of CQC-7A vs CQC-10?

I am sorely tempted to add to my Commander and Mini-Commander combo and will likely end up with both of the CQC's mentioned at some point so this is more of a request to help me decide which to purchase first...

I love the looks of the 10 and to be honest prefer the sculpted handles but I am wondering whether the reduced size would mean that I would carry the 7 more often. Right now it is pretty much even with my Commanders and I don't have any problems with the regular full-sized Commander.

So... I am really interested in your experience of either of these knives (especially if you have both!) and would love to see some in-hand shots/ comparison shots.

Cheers!

I like the '7A because it takes up less space in a pocket, and the rectangular shape of the handle allows just about any grip similar to the A100.

If you like both designs, then you definitely need both :D but I'd get the CQC-7A first as it's quite a bit different from your Commanders.

Thanks to you both Officer's Match and MatthewSB - that's one vote for each so far. Not sure how much that helps me decide ;)

I do however, really appreciate your input and experiences...

Thanks guys,

Ben

The 7A is my favorite knife. It is the first Emerson that I carried on a regular basis. Went in my pocket when I got it and stayed there for almost a year. Almost unheard of for me since I like to rotate knives a lot. The handle looks bulky but feels very comfortable to me and the blade is a nice useful shape. I like the 10 also but don't give it as much love as any of my 7s. I think any of the 7s are just about perfect folding knives. I just got an Enzo Birk 75 yesterday for my birthday as a gift from a buddy. It really reminds me of my Mini 7A so I like it a lot. Either way both are great models but I would definitely get the 7 first.

I like and have owned both. Sold my 7A and picked up a BM970 CQC7. Its thinner than current 7's, but other than that the handle dimensions are just about the same.

Between the 10 and the 7A: The CQC10 has a more ergonomic handle for me. Curves in the right places. Thumbhole opening as opposed to the thumbdisc. The 7A has the standard no-nonsense handle that, while may seem vanilla to some, is actually quite comfortable. Waved versus unwaved, thats your preference. My 7s have always been more of a utility blade for me, whereas the 10 is carried in a defensive role. YMMV

I was thinking of starting a thread on these same two...anyone have pics of them together so we can see how the blades and handles compare?

Own a 10 and a couple 7Bs. The 10 gets carried some, but I always have a 7 on me. Get the 7 first, then get the 10.

I agree with this. There is just something about the 7 that is awesome. I never thought much of them before owning one but after a day with one I was hooked. I've acquired 8 7s in different variations but only 2 10s. Nothing wrong with the 10, and it is a very comfortable knife with a lot of blade for the handle size but that 7.

This is the best I could do with my cell phone.

Thanks so much guys for all your input, especially to gooeytek and tusk212 for the really helpful comparison shots. Just what I was after! ☺

Leaning towards the 7 first but we all know that it is highly likely that I will get both at some point!

I really appreciate the thoughts shared.

Cheers,

Ben

I don't know about "odd ball" status but part of what draws me to the 10 is that the grip looks somewhat similar to my Commander which I Iove...

I find the grip of the 10 to be more like the Roadhouse than the Commander. If you like the commander grip the Journeyman may be more to your liking. I always hate throwing another knife into the mix but this one is quite similar in blade shape to the other two with a more Commander like handle.

In the past I had a 7A and a CQC-10. I passed along the 7A as I had other knife aspirations. I then got the 10 and figured I'd love it b/c I'm a big Spyderco thumb hole fan. Not so much on the 10. The blade shape is great, but didn't like the thumb hole shape, at least not compared to my Spydercos. So that one moved one as well. Recently picked up a 7V and it is amazing. I prefer the V grind to the full chisel grind, so this was a no brainer. For me, I'd go 7, but 7V. It is a beast of knife. Just rock solid, and purdy to boot.
