Hey guys, I've been carrying my Leatherman Sideclip lately, and I have to tell you, I love this tool!! I usually carried a Wave or recently a Blast, and I love them as well, but the Sideclip is working out even better. See, I always like to carry tools on me "just in case", ya know? Be prepared. However, day to day, on a normal, regular basis, they have tools I really don't need. A saw. A file. Scissors. I really don't need these tools most of the time, and can totally get by without them. Well, the Sideclip is perfect for my needs. A knife? Yeah, I need one of those all the time. Screw drivers? I use those pretty often as well. Pliers? Pretty darn handy. A Can opener? You'd be surprised how often I use one of those a week. So, I figured I'd minimize and go with the Sideclip. It's such a joy to carry. Slim profile, lightweight, and the clip is very handy indeed. It rides clipped on my pocket all day and goes totally unnoticed until I need it. Today, a fellow knife nut saw it, and was dumbfounded. He normally has a Spyderco on his pocket, and while Spydercos are damn good knives, he was like "Damn, your multitool is slimmer then my knife, and alot more diverse. I gotta get me one of those." No it doesn't open one handed. No the blades don't lock. Yes there are better multis out there. Sure the handles hurt if you add too much pressure when using the pliers. All these things are true, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this is one well made, kick ass, handy-dandy, all around reliable, easy to carry anywhere tool. I love it. Anyone else carry one? Or maybe it's current incarnation, the Kick? Sometimes, I guess, depending on your needs, smaller is better.

I've carried a Sideclip on and off for years now. I was bummed when they discontinued it. I normally carry a Spyderco, but I can swap that out for the Sideclip and hardly even notice. I haven't tried the Kick yet, but I do wish that it came with the clip instead of just a sheath.

I got both version of the sideclip I like them so much. I prefer the polished stainless version. This is the bead blasted version.

the numbers on the inside of the handle tell the yuear and month of manufacture:

I have several multitools but what I carry is either a Sideclip or an original Leatherman, I like them for the same reasons as ElCuchillo, slim and light yet do the job done fine.

My main complaint is when I have to push hard on the handles and it hurts a bit, I would like to see something as slim and light but with tools that open with the pliers closed, so that when using the pliers the hand is against a flat surface.

Colubrid, we got ours at around the same time, and on another forum, we were kind've waiting for them at the same time. It was a little while ago. Do you still EDC yours?

More than ten years ago, an original model Leatherman was my EDC. Whenever it was necessary to crank down hard with the pliers, I padded my hand with a folded handkerchief (Mom said to always carry a hanky cause you never know ;) ). I never thought the issue was a big deal.
Any pressure causing pain through that would probably bend the tool, as once it did.

A Super Tool, because it was much more robust and with locking tools, eventually replaced the PST. However, it still gets an occasional outing when I need to lighten the load. Once, it was just the thing to take along on a trip to England, where locking blades are not legal.

Yes it with me most of the time. It is usually between the sideclip and Victorinox spirit. All the other multitool brands get left in day packs or drawers.

I don't have a Sideclip but I do have a Kick (that I won on Multitool.org!!) and this thread has got me thinking about getting the clip for the Kick.

From colubrid's pictures the Kick looks a lot thinker than the Sideclip, its it? And why, are the Kicks tools thicker?

The Sideclip is alot thinner then the Kick, and it feels alot sturdier, as well. Not that the Kick isn't sturdy, but the Sideclip is built like a little tank. Not heavy or thick, just real solid. The Kick tools are a little thicker. The old tools were made differently, but they are about the same as far as toughness. Actually, the Sideclip's feel a little sturdier. It's just a great tool.

Well, it's a discontinued model, but you can probably find them somewhere. I got mine on Ebay. Took a while, and I had to bid smartly (they can get pretty expensive, since alot of people want one), but they can be had. Not a heavy duty tool, but a great edc.

From top:

1.- My Sideclip, dated 0698.

2.- My original, dated 0496, I've heard that the style of the Phillips driver was changed as this one had a tendency to close during use.

3.- My Mini Tool, not dated but it is my oldest, I haven't seen many of them around, it's cool as it folds so small yet opens full size.

sideclips are no longer produced. You have to get them by searching the forums or finding one on ebay.
