Sideclip is the answer.

I also have a Sideclip and I love it! I have several of the other Leatherman models but I always find myself coming back to this one!

I should know better than to read threads like this - it always costs me money. :D I was buying a new jacket today and the store had a Sideclip in the display case - turned out to be dated 0498 and was the last one they had. They sold it to me for $30, which seemed reasonable (no box, though).

Question: what is the cut on the side of the grip opposite the clip? (See post #6 above.)

Don, yes, the Mini is a great tool as well, but it's pretty much just a folding pair of pliers. I like the extra screwdrivers on the Sideclip. (The Mini also has the advantage of being the only old-style LM that doesn't bite you when you grip it hard because of the way the grip extensions fold out.)

Thanks, I had forgotten about those. Have one for a 1st gen Wave and have never used it.

Bead blasted or shiney version?

$30. is a great deal!

I thought it was a great deal, too! It's the bead-blasted version. I kinda like the difference compared to the other LMs I've got. We'll see if it grows on me or fades.

I am trying to figure out whether/if I can hack the tool to replaced the blade with either a pair of scissors from a PST II or a (shortened) file. Space is pretty tight in there - not surprisingly because of how thin it is (which is part of what's attractive about this tool).

A funny thing I noticed - one side is stamped 0498 and the opposite half is stamped 0598. (BTW, do we still call these "scales" or is there a different/better term for this part of a multitool?)

Hi,

I think the handle date relates to when the handle pieces were stamped rather than when assembled. I'd say 1/3 of my 90+ l'man tools have different dates in each half.

Joe
