Sidekicks

The Bone Collector is a little off from perfect, but it's my daily.

Murph, I'm interested in a couple of the Benchmade knives that feature the Spyderhole with Axis Lock and G-10.
One of them is that Bone Collector, and I'd like to hear what you think about it.

The other is the Bob Lum designed Onslaught.

No problem man. The Bone Collector I currently tote is the larger of the two with G10. I came from a Stryker with a thumb stud and tip down carry, so this is the reason for anything I say negative. D2 for me has been great on edge retention, but does require a little more cleaning. It doesn't so much stain, but just doesn't wipe as clean and easy as my 154cm did. I really dig this blade style as it makes for a very effective slicer. The G10 material and handle design are both very grippe and even with wet or bloody hands(from skinning) I haven't noticed any slippage. I'm not a huge fan of the Spyderhole really and really prefer a thumb stud. Though I would assume if you already own a Spyderco it wouldn't be an issue. I would also prefer a tip down carry option as it's what I am used to. The knife isn't a light weight by any means, I don't have an exact weight for you, but you won't forget you're carrying it. It's a bit bulky in the pocket(strong side hip pocket) , but I prefer large folders. I have always, until now, carried a liner lock. I got used to it, trusted it and just overall like it. The Axis is very dependable, locks positively, allows one hand closing without any smears manipulation of the hand and is way easier to maintain than a liner lock. Honestly I use the air hose at work for a quick burst then add a little gear oil and I'm set. I highly recommend this knife Guyon. If you'd like to give it a try before you buy I'll happily send mine out as soon as you give the word.

Actually, I do have a folder or two. Here was today's carry.

I'm not that big of a folder guy. When I'm not carrying my trusty Case Peanut or some sort of stockman, I usually grab one of these.

i find it depressing that you say your not a folder guy, yet you have more folders than i have knives total

I've seen some serious folder stashes here at BFC.
Murph, let me poke around a bit more on the Benchmade front.
I may take you up on your try-out offer.

I have one on the large Bone Collectors as well and it is a very well made knife. Lock up is perfect with the axis lock. Love the Spyderhole, blade shape, grind and steel. What I do not like, and the reason it gets no pocket time is that it is too bulky in the pocket for me personally. The knife does not feel too big in the hand though.

I'm thinking maybe the smaller Bone Collector for EDC.

Here's my most common sidekick. I use it primarily for tactical defense and batoning firewood.

Here are a few I have acquired over the years. The Beckers are recent as well as the SK-5 and unused I should take another pic to show that they are not safe queens!
