WILL GIVE THE MEMBERS OF THE HUNT A CHANCE TO KILL WITH IT-AS WELL AS THE OTHERS.

THE OWNERS NAME IS Darrell(GOT THE KNIFE TODAY-VERY WELL MADE)
THE OWNER MODIFIED THE GRIP--DOES NOT FEEL GOOD IN MY HAND-BUT DAVE OR TOM MIGHT LIKE IT.

IT IS HEAVY-VERY WELL MADE-AND CHOPS LIKE A MOFO!!!
OWNER KNOWS MORE ABOUT IT-AND HAS SEVERAL TO SELL-CONTACT HIM WITH QUESTIONS

E-MAIL IS:

darsoe@visi.com

THERE ARE 3 OF US GOING ON THE HUNT FEB 24th--

EACH MEMBER WILL GET TO CHOOSE WHICH ONE OF THE 4 KNIVES FEELS THE BEST IN THEIR HAND--AND WILL MAKE THE KILL WITH THAT KNIFE.

THERE IS A CHANCE THAT WE WILL GET TO MAKE MORE THAN ONE KILL EACH AND IF SO I WILL MAKE SURE THAT DIFFERENT KNIVES ARE USED AS TO COMPARE THEM.

THE HEAFNER CHOPS GREAT BUT DOES NOT FEEL GOOD IN MY HAND--GRIP WAS MODIFIED BY OWNER.DAVE OR TOM MIGHT LOVE IT.

THE BOARS ARE KILLED WITH A STABBING MOTION--NOT BY CHOPPING.

SO GRIP ERGONOMICS AND RETENTION ARE OF HIGHEST IMPORTANCE-AS ONE STAB USUALLY DOES NOT DROP THE BOAR IN HIS TRACKS.

ALL OF THE MAKERS ABOVE ARE FIRST RATE---AND I ENDORSE THEM WITH MY LIFE(AS I WOULD NOT TAKE JUST ANY KNIFE UP AGAINST A BOAR)

WE WILL ALSO BE TESTING THESE KNIVES IN THE "CAMP KNIFE" ROLE AFTER
THE HUNT---

-LEST THE BOAR WINS.. :(

I DO NOT THINK ONE WILL BE THE CLEAR WINNER-THEY ARE TOO DIFFERENT IN SHAPES AND SIZES(WEIGHTS)--

THE RAZORBACK IS ABOUT HALF THE WEIGHT OF THE HEAFNER--SO IT CAN'T OUT CHOP IT..BUT I WOULD NOT WANT TO GO BACKPACKING WITH THE HEAFNER.

THERE ARE ALWAYS TRADE OFF'S

BUT I WILL DO MY BEST TO RATE THEM AGAINST OTHERS IN THEIR CLASS..

WILL SEND YOU ALL PHOTOS OF THE HUNT TOO....

SINCERELY

Can you really do a hard stab with the Tusker with a sweaty bloody hand? For all of the knives I would want a much more substantial guard, in fact I would want a full front double guard. Not that I killed a pig, but I would imagine that it has to be very violent, dynamic and given the level of exertion and results of the insertion, the grip is likely sweaty/bloody?

I've been boar hunting with a knife here in New Zealand, and the Tusker looks perfect for the job.

Scott Gossman's knives are a result of his own extensive hunting experience, including boar hunting, so I would take his knowledge over someone who is working from theory only.
I've been impressed with his knives for a long time.

YOU KILL THE BOAR WITH THE KNIFE ALONE...NO GUN.

Before you leave, make sure you add this line to your will, "I hearby bequeth all my knives to The Last Confederate". :D

Just kidding, sounds like a great hunt, and you've got some great knives to hunt with!

HERE IS A VIDEO OF ME KILLING A BOAR WITH A KNIFE IN 2001(I'M THE 2ND HUNTER)-MY BROTHER IS THE FIRST.

WE WERE USING A CUSTOM MADE 10" TANTO WITH BECKER HANDLES(THE PLASTIC -SLICK ONE'S).

YOUR STRENGTH IS MUCH GREATER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE AND I DO NOT RECALL ANY HAND SLIPPAGE AT ALL TOWARDS THE FRONT GUARD.

WE WILL ALSO BE WEARING LEATHER GLOVES TO ENHANCE OUR GRIP.

Is it hard not to stab the dogs?

Some people might find this cruel, but to be honest, I prefer this method to the longshot.

"When you kill with your own hands, there's a reverence"

A comment: could you give the specs of the knives, just for fun.

And 47 dogs keeping the tusk occupied will you stick him. ;)

UNLESS YOUR ASS CAN RUN AS FAST AS BOAR--HOW ELSE WOULD YOU GET IT???

BEST YOU TRY IT FIRST--THEN GIVE ME ADVICE

NOT AS "EASY" AS IT SOUNDS-THE MAN THAT RUNS THE SERVICE SAYS ALMOST 20% OF HIS CUSTOMERS CHICKEN OUT WHEN IT COMES TIME TO RUN UP AND KILL THE BOAR...

NOT THE MOST DANGEROUS THING ONE CAN DO---BUT UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY DO IT--IT'S ALL TALK

Is it hard not to stab the dogs?

--NO--FOR ME --I KEPT THINKING ABOUT WHERE ON THE BOAR I WANTED THE KNIFE TO GO INTO.

Some people might find this cruel, but to be honest, I prefer this method to the longshot.

IT IS CRUEL I SUPPOSE COMPARED TO A RIFLE-JUST DO NOT SEE THE "SPORT" OF DOING IT THAT WAY.

THANKS BRO

William,

I too own some of Scott Tanguay's knives (a LP and custom necker soon) and what you had to say was right on the money. His sculpted handles always seal the deal for me. Enjoy all you knives and hope they prevail.

Best of luck

Looks like a pretty neat forum. It will be interesting to see what those guys have to say when you show them the pictures of your hogs
with the knives.

Things on the hunting side have been really good here. Last weekend we had a man and his wife down from Dallas and we go on a really big
boar...probably around 375 live weight with about 4in tusks. He was a bad mother, but we finally caught up to him and Mr. Gorden was able
to put him down...his wife tried, but she wasn't strong enough to stab through the fighting shield of the shoulder. The next night we were out training some new dogs on our own and we tangled with the largest boar I have seen. This thing was huge!! Easily 25%bigger than the one we caught with the Gorden's....Big teeth, big body, big on fighting. We got most of our pack cut to smithereens and one of our better dogs is still missing. We are hoping that he is going to
show up soon, but after looking at the other dogs we don't have much hope that he made it. We have not been catching the numbers of hogs lately, but it seems that every time we go out we catch one monster boar... There is one big boar that we have run 6 times and the dogs haven't be able to stop him... after seeing the size of the ones we
have caught lately it really makes me wonder just how big this thing
is. If and when we do get him stopped it is probably going to get really interesting really fast.. This is probably the first place that we will take your group. Looking forward to seeing you on the
24th.

I tried going to the web page you linked for the outfitter, but the Hog link isn't working. About how much cash are we talking about for a hunt like this?

I would be curious to hear more about this. What kind of knife was she using? Did it have a very narrow stabbing point, or was it more broad and rounded?

I'll stick to stalk hunting boar with a bow or the Redhawk, no dogs.

I have spear hunted and knife hunted these guys down in Central California on my own land. But never with dogs, it always seems lousy when one gets gutted by a tusk.

Good luck on your hunt, I got my money on the Heafner. Looks purpose built to the job.
