Sifu edge geometry?

By the looks of it the Sifu has a fairly thick edge. The Hobbit Fang that I own had a hugely thick edge until I worked it down.

I want the knife primarily as a defensive tool, so edge geometry is less important than many other factors. But the knife will also be used for cutting evidence tags, bags, ect, so the edge geometry is a secondary priority.

Edge geometry can be corrected, and the Sifu is the ony thing in its class, withouth those nasty serrations.

I'm going to approach my neighborhood knife maker Wayne Goddard to see if he will/can serrate mine when I get it.

Pat - I think it has a fairly thin edge actually. In any case it is razor sharp and slices well.

Take care with it, mine has already bitten me a few times

the serrations I was referring to were those of the CS Vaquero Grande, the only other mass produced mega folder. The VG only comes with those crappy CS serrations.

Doing a 50/50 edge with the FRONT (the belly) of the knife serrated would be really cool, and take the most advantage the serrations pluses in a fighting knife.

Tonie, will you scan your knife after it gets serrated?

If I can I will. Here at work my boss and I use a digital camera. He thinks he should be able to get a pic set up so I can post it. Of course this will also depend on Waynes willingness to serrate that slight recurve.

And while I far prefer the Spyderco serrations over the Cold Steel, I wouldn't be too hard on them. My Vaquero Grande and 5" Voyager Clip Point, both fully serrated, did more damage to some leather jackets I was cut testing on than any of the fixed blade fighters I had at the time. Neither of them even noticed the metal zippers. And the VG was the one which most cleanly removed the sleeve and foam pipe wrap insulation inside.

The greatest problem I've found with the Cold Steel folders I own, is that they can't hold up under one handed openings. Every one of mine have all developed varying degrees of vertical play with the Vaquero G. being the worst. My Spydies on the other hand which have been opened much more often than the CS folders are still tight like new, with no play.

I had one of the old style Folding Hobbits upon which I put a clip for standard grip carry. After a few weeks of practicing one hand openings, the spring broke. Bob Taylor immediately sent me another for no charge and I installed it myself. But shortly after that the blade did begin to exhibit vertical play. Was that design /material weakness? After all the knife wasn't meant to be opened in that fashion. Or was it something that occurred due to my tinkering? I don't know. But I am certainly not going to blame REKAT for it. Before I could investigate and find out, a friend begged and pleaded with me to sell it to him. I explained the blade play to him and he didn't care, he was foing to use it as a skinning knife. So I sold it to him.

But I've really missed it, so first I will buy a Sifu and then the Hobbit.
