I am trying to decide between Sifu and Pentagon Elite II, which is best and why?

I prefer the SIFU.

It is rock solid.

It has a blade equally suited for slashing and thrusting.

It is rock solid in the grip department too.

It is very agile for a large folder.

I would get the sifu even though it costs a bit more, although I have never acutally handled one. I just don't like the fact that the PE2 doesn't close all the way so that the second edge is protected inside the handle. I would like it more if I could have the option of sharpening the second edge. But with the current design, you are left with a large false edge that takes up half the blade. I also like the scare factor of the sifu, whereas the PE2 is sort of symetrically eye catching.

I don't have a PE II to compare it to, but in my opinion you can't go wrong with a Sifu. Absolutely rock-solid, very smooth, and with a relatively mature lock design. My advice would be to try to handle one of each, or else a few knives by the same manufacturer, such as a PE I, or a Pocket Hobbit, and see which tends to feel better to you. Generally companies have a consistent feel across their product lines, so this might give you at least a starting point.

The Sifu will definately be a "better overall knife" - bigger, tougher, better steel, at least a slightly better lock.

But with a street price in the $80 range, a PE2 wouldn't exactly leave you helpless. For some people, it may prove easier to carry daily. And since the grip is Zytel (reinforced with steel liners), if you do deep-in-the-pocket carry it won't try and wear through fabric materials the way G10 can.

In other words, the PE2 could find a role for deeper cover needs or when price is an issue. It's no direct threat to Sifu sales I don't think...but the PE2 could absolutely slaughter Cold Steel large Zytel folder sales...pending tests of the Arclock in the bigger platform, the PE2 is a "Gunsite killer" if ever there was one

SIFU is definitely better. I handled PEII, it feels like a stick, i'll like it much better if it's double edged, and the handle feels really cheap vs the nice G10 on my SIFU. Just my .2

I drooled over the PE1 for months in catalogs. Then I got the chance to handle one in a knife store and immediately knew it wasn't a knife for me. It felt terrible. Someone said "like a stick" that's about it. Then the PE2 came out, and I thought, "maybe that one," nope. I guess the arc lock is strong, but the knife feels awful. Do yourself a favor, if you're planning on buying one, hold one first. Handle is anything but ergonomic. And the Zytel on them is so rough that I'd bet it would tear your pocket up more than the Sifu's G-10. I was worried that the Sifu would be way too big for my relatively small hands, as the carnivore is, but the Sifu felt perfect in my hands. IMO it's no competition. YMMV, but, especially if you're buying sight unseen, go with the Sifu.
