What are the specs on the Sifu? Any idea when the production Sifu's will hit the market? Is sifu an acronym, and if so, what does it stand for?

Thanks

Hey Molly, the SIFU is a foot long and acronyms abound. Search the main forum. There is a thread called "SIFU acronyms". I have read that it actually has oriental meaning but I prefer some of the member supplied definitions. Spark also posted pics today of it there. We seem to be neglected here... but the boss of this forum is at a major knife meet for awhile.

Sifu is a Japanese word that means teacher. Specs are 5.46"ATS-34 blade, G10 scales, REKAT rolling lock. Destined to be a classic, especially for us megafolder afficianados.

Thank you gentlemen. If this SIFU is as nice as my Carnivour, they won't be able to keep them on the shelves.

Sifu is *Chinese* for "teacher", often used to refer to a martial arts instructor (Kung Fu, etc). The Japanese equivelent is "Sensei".

This is almost certain to be the finest megafolder ever made, production OR custom. I've handled a $600 6" Damascus linerlock by a nationally known maker and lemme tell ya, the lock just couldn't support that much blade. No way in hell.

Spyderco may come out with a Rolling Lock megafolder and/or Camillus might get their stuff together. Benchmade has repeatedly said they're not going mega. The California market alone can support two or three top contenders...look at how many companies are doing 1.9" autos just for this state. And Texas has potential too, so long as it's under 5.5" - that's why the Sifu will be 5.45", to stay just clear of Texas rules.

Spyderco has dropped the Rolling Lock idea. I guess the two parties couldn't reach an agreement.

That's Spyderco's loss. Especially on megafolders, it may prove to be the best possible lockwork. The extreme heft of a megafolder blade creates more smoothness than you generally get in the 3.5" range...linerlock-level smoothness just isn't that critical.

Well, it's the ELU's loss. I'm sure they'll find an appropriate lock for the 5in. Carbon Fiber Civilian.

I handled ( or mishandled if you ask Bob Taylor)a Sifu at the Blade Show and would have plunked down the money if I'd had it to spare. It is an incredible (more than) handful. I'm real sorry I missed out on the first run of these. Maybe I'll get a whack at one later for more... it'll be worth it, for collector value alone. This knife makes a CS Vaquero Grande seem like a toy. I think anyone out there who is having second thoughts should let me know, I'll be happy to allay any fears you may have. You should see Bob Taylor smoothly spin and manipulate this megafolder, very impressive. Also, got a good deal from Bob and REKAT on a Pioneer, it's a second, but after a sharpening and tightening it sure doesn't feel like a second! Thanks Bob.
