:grumpy:...so for my birthday i got a jyd 2.2, the first one was amazing for the first day...then the next day the ball bearing in the liner lock locked up....so i sent it back....i just got my 2nd one today....i can feel a few other ball bearings in the pivot area....it showed up with rust on the 14c28n side..small amount of rust...but rust nontheless..and the liner sticks in the lock position.....im giving the jyd2.2 one more chance....and if any of those problems show up again....im giving up on the jyd2...and ill find something else...

It sounds like you just need to take it apart and clean it, not a big job to do and it's a lot of fun getting to know your knife.

Also I don't think the JYD series have ball bearings, just washers, at least none of mine do. The rust can be easily taken care of with some high grit sandpaper or some wd40 and a 6'er of elbow grease

i unfortunantly dont have the tools (i.e. t6 torx bit) to do that and idk how to free up the ball bearings....ive oiled the hell out of both of em though

I would suggest hitting up your local hardware store, or getting a set of Torx bits then. They come in quite handy and earn their keep. It would also be a lot cheaper then constantly sending it back to the company.

as to the ball bearings, there is nothing on the Kershaw website that says it has anything but washers, I think youre just feeling the grit between them which oil wont always get out, infact the more you add, the more it'll collect feeling grittier and grittier. Get the Torx. Take apart clean all surfaces and add a drop of oil on each side. should do the trick

well the regular jyd2 might not have ball bearings but the composite blade does...and ive bought mine from (the most popular shopping website named after a jungle) and i can send it back at no cost to me and get another one.... but i do need a set of torx bits...i have one but the smallest it has is a t8...and all the t6s ive ever owned i end up stripping it pretty quickly

Try getting a blue box by Benchmade, it comes with some pretty sturdy t6, and it might help if during the usage to push down along with twisting. This seems to save my bits pretty well. Or placing the driver into the screw and lihtly tapping with a hammer to break up any solidifying matter, ie locktite.

I have had the same JYD II for 2 years. I've done pretty much every day to day task that you can think of with it, and shucked a few deer and hogs.. it's still going strong with no problems

Sounds like you've had a good run of bad luck

There are no ball bearings in a factory JYD II. Unless you have one that was customized with the IKBS, Kershaw has only now started to use ball bearings in their factory offerings. As of this moment the only two blades that have the KVT system are the Tilt and the ZT056x Series. It may well feel as though they are ball bearings, but I assure you they are only washers. I have owned one personally and taken it apart.

well i can physically see a small ball bearing on the liner lock....and ive taken my streamlight stylus pro to it and im pretty sure i see a few others in the pivot area...but for sure there is one on the liner lock...and mines not the regular jyd2 mine is the composite blade

Absolute truth: NO BALL BEARINGS IN JYD period.

The one in the lock is for the detent, there are only washers around the pivot.

There are only phosphorus bronze washers in the JYD2 - the only thing resembling a ball-bearing would be the detent-ball in the lock-bar. I've owned both the composite and Sandvic versions (as well as the JYD1) and taken all of them apart.

FYI, the detent-ball is not a ball-bearing. If you see ball bearings in the pivot area, then you've got serious problems (i.e. dust/debris large enough to cause some serious drag).

Either your pivot was too tight, or there was junk in between the pivot and washers/scales. In my personal opinion, if you want to be able to maintain your own EDC knives, you need to get a decent (read Wiha) set of Torx drivers - at the very least, you can move pocket-clips and adjust pivots.

If you just want yours adjusted/cleaned/lubed, send me an email and I'll do it for you if it helps restore your faith in a very good knife.

wrong you are....there arent any in the pivot...i was wrong there...but there is one on the liner lock

Wrong i'm not... its a detent not on the pivot.you said and kept saying "i can feel a few other ball bearings in the pivot area" that is not in the pivot!

lol yup...i was wrong....it was so silky smooth...i thought it was ball bearings....why did my first one lock up with that ball detent?

Thats hard to say maybe it was off center to that side and you got a bad detent and with those two together it closed and that was all she wrote? Maybe the spring in the detent broke? Really hard to say. I do however highly suggest getting a torx driver of some sort. You are looking anywhere from $6-20 depending on what you get and where. I got a cobalt driver from lowes on the lower end of that spectrum.

all that is very possible....but right now with the kind of things im dealing with right now...i dont have the time or the patience to take it apart and vigorously clean it up right now....and i think its inexcusable for a blade to show up from factory rusted....its not gunna cost me a dime to replace this one....this one just didnt feel as good as the other one....so ill get me a torx set with a t6 driver...and hope the next one is flawless...or ill just stick with my kershaw tone for edc for the time being

You are right it is unacceptable for a blade to come to you rusted. Since you are buying it from someone on "there" i would assume it is something to do with how they are storing them etc... If i were you i would call up kershaw and speak with customer service about this problem. They will either tell you to try with the seller again or most likely tell you to just send it to them and they will replace the washers and blade or send you a new knife. i'm sure you have heard but they are the best in the industry with customer service. I have been taken care of by them 5 or 6 times some my fault some not.
