This may be a little off topic from the normal threads but on another thread Troutfisher mentioned something about unusual sights you see in nature.
This got me thinking, as I take pics of all sorts of stuff when in the wilds and thought maybe we could share some pics !!!:)
I'll start us of with this,

This is not my picture but I think it is one of the coolest I have ever seen, if this doesn't make your heart go pitter patter you might be dead.:D

I'll play!

A cactus in a slash pine:

lizard eating a dragonfly. I've got a lot more photos of this lizard, in some of them you can see part of the dragonfly's tail still.

Yeah, I do believe that would get my heart pounding, runningboar! It might get my shotgun talking also. quietly though.

Great thread idea! Unfortunately I just recently got a digital cam, so I have none to share. It could be a good reason to go hiking this weekend though.

evolute, I was hoping you'd see this thread!

pitman, here is another shot of that lizard.

And one of a dragonfly doing a handstand. They do this in the hottest summer months to decrease the cross section of their body exposed to the direct rays of the sun.

I probably could have brightened it up some but I don't know. I think my monitor is on its way out.

Thanks, Mike. I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of this photography thing and am starting to feel limited by my camera. So pretty soon I will be in the market for a DSLR... you don't happen to know any photog stores in Fl that take good steel on trade, do ya? :D

And my name is Brian, btw.

here is a katydid nymph that I probably would not have noticed if not for the coloring. Its really tiny; in the photo it is sitting on the end of a black magic 'mini' leaf perhaps 2" long.

and this might look like I photoshopped it but I didn't. I was shooting from full sun into the shade where the spider was. The coloring for the "smiley" was actually a kind of metallic yellow. I believe that it looks the way it does because the sensor was picking up the light reflection off the markings.

crappy photo but you can really see the colors in it. Don't know what its called, I just call it the smiley face spider.

I'm no spider expert...but something about that smiley face says stay away to me.. nice pics everyone one day when I'm technologically motivated enought to sit down and figure it out I'll post a few myself.

I agree, it doesn't look that friendly to me either.

What do you make of this one!?! :D Its a wolf spider of some kind. Not especially poisonous but its bite is supposed to hurt something fierce.

Mike: Very true, I do like the close ups. They also seem to be my camera's strong suit- I'm using an olympus 4mp point and shoot.

I always enjoy your art but that last photo of the butterfly is very beautiful indeed.

Great picture runningboar!. Do you happen to no where this was taken??

I now just got through the entire thread here and I am very impressed with all the GREAT photo's you all took! Incredible stuff. Thanks for that.

Dude, that sort of sucks. That poor little green thing clinging to the rock looks like it has been blown around by the wind for 300 to 400 years.
I am happy for you, the new spot looks really great. Live out your dream.
