Since I was the original owner of the Sigman and Bill got it from me, hopefully I won't get in trouble for chiming in here with info. The steel used on Corbet's "HC Tool Steel" knives is a special steel Corbet found back in the late 70s. I don't remember if he found a huge coil of it, or if he had it melted specially for him. All I know is, I wish I had a bunch of it. ;) Analysis is super high carbon(1.28%, I believe) with virtually nothing else of note. There are trace amounts of manganese, chrome, etc..., but they are very, very small and are for grain refinement only. This steel takes and holds a WICKED, SCARY sharp edge! Not even remotely stainless, so that means it will patina very nicely, indeed.

Hope this info helps, Bill. :)
