Sign up for the first batch of the production Bushcraft Puukko!

Payment sent. BTW, I've ordered a carbide bit from Amazon to try to do the lanyard hole mod. I'll let you guys know how it comes out. AFIK, Gary Graley was the first to do the mod to a Runt, but the bit was a special one his machinist friend had for hard steels. I tried a cobalt bit on the Production Hiking Buddy and it really didn't even scratch the steel.

Interesting...keep us updated. Truth be told, I would purchase one if it had the lanyard slot in the butt of the handle!!

It was very hard steel to get through after the fact, I was glad to hear that they took the idea and used it on the Duke, maybe they will carry it through to the rest of the production line up. I did that to both the Runt and the Hiking Buddy, worked out great, but was a pain to do :)

Im guessing the handle/tang's as hard as the edge on these. Its why everything is "ground" (abrasives employed), after heat treat - O1, A2, S35 - alloys wont matter. In that case, carbide may not be enough. Diamond more than likely will be required. Im still surprised Comprehensivist was able to file the lump on his Sneaky pete. We were taught and it was demonstrated anything over 40 to 45 rockwell isn't going to behave well with "conventional" tools.

I'm curious, why is "guardless" desired.

In response to the interest in adding a guardless edc blade in our production line, we are introducing the Bushcraft Puukko as a guardless version of the Hiking Buddy. We will be finishing 10 of these knives this week.

The blades are 1/8" CPM S35VN steel, with a 3" blade length and 7.4" overall length. The scales are black canvas micarta or natural canvas micarta, and a belt sheath. The price is $195. Domestic shipping is included. International shipping is currently $40.

Please sign up in this thread to request your knife, and specify black or natural scales.

I'll edit the list here to acknowledge and track the requests.

1. Warrior108 (natural)
2. gusbuster (natural)
3. swonut (natural)
4. Odaon (natural)
5. Tim_Z (natural)
6. fogdart (natural)
7. Wex1 (black)
8.
9.
10.

Thanks!
David

For me it just looks cleaner. I've been into the Scandinavian knives of late and appreciate the clean lines. (Not a fan of the scandi grind, but that's another thread all together.)

Man, thank you for the support guys. I always like the guardless HB's.

In Scandi knife culture knives with guards are childrens knives. When a guardless knife is given to the young person, it is a coming of age moment. They now are trusted to use an adult knife.

An example of a guarded "kid's knife". My son using his Mora Scout a couple years ago when he was 9. Notice the double guard.

Offered in black and natural and according to the sign up list only 2 purchased black. How can you be out of black?? Seems strange to me.

We allocated a slot to finish up to ten, but were doing them based on the pre-orders. You can tell when we do that versus finishing them ahead of time by the fact that the signup isn't for a set number of each color. We did the requests plus one extra of each color., and the extra black has subsequently been claimed. We will likely have another batch soon.

Got mine today! This is my first FF. I like it! I like the way it feels in the hand. Not a bush crafter but it will probably do that role well. I want more. I guess I need to start saving. This hobby is getting out of hand. Thank you FF.

Haha! I'm about 3 minutes from my mail box. Even though I'll be giving it to my buddy tomorrow I'm excited to get it!

It takes some strong will to keep away from these knives! I have a list of wants that seems to continue growing.

Tell me about it!
When Allen & I sort the batch on Friday morning I am always saying....."man I want that one and that one and that one and...." Ultimately it is pretty rare that i actually get one because we always come back to the theory...."naw that one will sell this week"
