I've looked for ways to protect a signal mirror for packing in a PSK or on a neck lanyard. Best I came up with was to use clear packing tape and put a reversed layer of tape over the mirror surface so the glue wouldn't stick. It was make-do but I wasn't satisfied.
I was in a hardware store the other day and looking through the impulse tems at the check-out counter and they had some heavy gauge plastic zip-lock lisence holders. I bought one as it looked good for neck lanyard stuff in general and when I got home I went to put it in the box with my survival spares and saw the mirror.... DING!
Works perfect-- protects the mirror and you can still hang it on a neck lanyard. Easy to deploy too-- you don't want to be fiddling around when the helicopter passes over!
