Signature on Blade

I'm looking for recommendations for putting a signature on a custom blade. There seems to be a number of ways but I'm looking for one that isn't too expensive and permanent. I'd like something that can replicate a freehand signature.

Just use the roll type stencil material and an etcher. If you need just a foot long piece ( that will do about a dozen stencils) I'll be glad to send you some. Send me an email or PM and I'll drop a length in an envelope ASAP.

You will need an etcher. You can get a commercial unit, like the personalizer plus, buy a budget unit like the ones Zaph sells in The Exchange, or build one using any of the tutorials around.
If you have a friend who has an etcher, just take the stencil and the knife over to him on a visit.

You tape a piece of stencil material on a sheet of printer paper, and write your signature on it with a nylon stylus. If you don't have a stylus, just place a second piece of paper over the stencil and write with a ball point pen. Use good pressure. The stencil material will stick to the bottom paper, and when you lift it off you will have a stencil that will work just like a commercial one. EWhile generally used for a one-shot mark, it is good for up to half a dozen etches if rinsed and dried well immediately after use.

Here is a thread talking about it on post #9.

Google blue lightning stencils, a lot of guys here recommend his stencils. He also does discounted "one off" stincils for customer signatures and names.
He also has a tutorial on using quick dry paint, a pen, and an engraving tip to have a customer write directly on the blade for electroetching.

Thank you both very much. And, thank you, Bladsmth for the offer. I'll take you up on it. I was wondering too if anyone has ever used laser engraving for one-off kinds of things? I have a friend who is a master wood turner who uses it to sign his pieces of art. If nobody here has experience with it, I'll contact someone who owns a machine and see if it works, damages, etc.

Send me your mailing info and I'll send it out.

I have had poor results from lasering steel with a sign laser ( for wood). Unless the laser is pretty high power, the mark is not bold.

Got the stencil material today. Thank you! And, we found someone who has a commercial unit we're going to try. They bought it for something else so we're not sure if it will work or not. We're going to try and then go from there. I'll keep you updated.

Not trying to dig up a dead thread... but I guess I'm gonna. I was hoping someone could point me toward a source for a some of the roll type stencil material. Not sure what it's called and was hoping not to have to buy a whole roll... yet.
