Hi everyone,
I made my stamp for my knives out of my initials in brand configuration. Just occured to me that someone else may be using it . Should have thought of this before making a bunch of knives! Where can i go to find out if it's already registered ??????
I tried to post the signature but couldn't for some reason.
Thanks, Jon

The easiet way would be to post the brand. You might try Knives 2000. Under listed makers their marks are identified. They're alphabetical so you could look in just the letters of your name rather than wade through so many knifemakers.

I know everyone might not agree with this, but using initial are not a good idea if you are planning on making knives professionally.
In any business, brand recognition is important and your initials are only known to those who know you and your knives personally. If someone were to look at one of your knives for sale by someone else, they wouldn't know whose those initials were and not buy. Obviously, there are exceptions. Ted Dowell has always used his initials, but his are very distinctive and most everyone recognizes him, his initials and his knives. Just a thought...

I've been puzzling over this one a bit myself. I've only done a few blades that I was proud enough of to mark, and I just put an OZ on those. My next I'm going to drill out a hole in place of the O, and maybe fill that hole with a gemstone. Sooner or later I'll have to make a die, but they're mighty costly, and I don't yet make the volume to justify it. A friend of mine used to do his initials with a chisel in runes. If you do any period pieces, perhaps this would work?

Is stamping a blade really a good idea, I've heard it creates stress risers through the blade at that point? Would stamping the guard be a reasonable alternative? -Guy T.
