Signup: Large Plain Sebenza Passaround

Review for me, how many people do you have that are still in?

Have you collected any money yet?

Including myself we have 6 people signed up. I have not asked for any money yet. I would prefer to have 10 people before I ask people to contribute.

OK, I have another question. The upfront money is the problem for everyone? Is $35 to steep even if you do get a chance to own it when your done?

Ok, hypothetical here, if we could come up with a sebenza somehow, how about money collected going for a refurb when the passaround is done? Since refurbs cost < $50, 10 people could chip in $5 to give it a try. (I don't mean to complicate this thread, I just want to figure out if the $35 fee is too high.)

Dave where do you get refurbished Sebenzas for that kind of money?

Hell if they're that cheap I'd buy one.:D

The $300+ is a lot to drop, but $50 to $100 I could scrounge up.

I think he means $50 for the knife to be redone like new for the winner when its over. $35 isn't to much for a chance at winning it to me :)

Maybe I wasn't clear.

I'm talking about getting an existing sebenza refurbished, not buying a refurbished sebenza.

Does that help? (I should say this is idea was originally in conjuntion with a permanent passaround sebenza, but could still apply to the original raffle passaround)

I knew $35 is pretty high, but it seems like there are plenty of people around here with money to toss around, so I figured I'd get enough interest to manage 10 people.

Sorry dave I misunderstood what you meant, I love how a little misimformation can send a thread so askew.

DaveH: I just saw your post in the Chris Reeve forum. I understand more now.

If I can convince Chris Reeve to donate a Sebenza, or can raise donations to buy one for a permanent passaround, I'd gladly do it that way.

Then, I could get 10 people at $5 a person to pay for a refurbishing for the knife. I could keep the passaround going on forever!

Check this out. It explains DaveH's idea much better!

Good luck, I e-mailed them about two weeks or so ago about a possible small discount for the passaround also had a few questions, I never got a response :(

I'd just call and explain to whoever answers, or ask for Anne, I'm not sure they have been exposed to passarounds so that concept might need some background as well.

If you want I can call them tomorrow, let me know.

Also, I am supposed to be getting the Jot Khalsa passaround back in a week or so (I hope). I'll put that up forsale and all the money can go to this project.

Thanks,

No Raffle huh? :( Well I am still in, but that chance of winning one was what made me get out of bed in the morning:D

Thanks! In that case, would you like to have a spot on the passaround too?

Well, if you can get four more people willing to contribute $35 each we can hold our own private passaround and raffle. :)

But if DaveH gets me a Sebenza, I think it should be a permanent passaround. Kind of a Bladeforums public service project...

im2smrt4u,

Just thought of a way to fairly and openly run the raffle at the end of the pass around--use the results from a state lottery.

Many states have a "Pick 3", or something to that effect, where you pick a number between 000 and 999. Let's say you have 10 people in the pass around and raffle. You could assign everyone a separate number between 0 (zero) and 9. Post the assignments on the forum and then chose a date far in advance and give the knife to person whose assigned number shows up as the first digit of the Pick 3 on that given date (or the last digit, whatever). In this way, no one associated with the pass around is involved with picking the winner.

If you have more than 10, you could use 2 or more digits, as long as everyone has the exact same number of chances and the date is know in advance, it should be clean.

Crazy?

Regards,

David
