I bodged one up in the garage. I built something closer to Doc's version.

It took about 1 hour (as this was my first trap I have ever built) - and I am sure I could streamline things a bit next time.

I was in my garage due to the cold (almost in the 40's! Brrrrrr ;) ).

It holds fine (weight is necessary to hold the trigger well) and I fine tuned the trigger. I tossed a 1" wood chip on the trigger - and BAM!

I hate to say that I made one without pics..but I did. My friend and I went out for a really cool hike last Sunday...and I made one like the video Simon posted. It is my favorite trap to date. I find the trigger simple and brilliant all at the same time. You can really tune it. Gene
OH...I used a really huge piece of Oak that came out of a tree that was struck by lightning...really cool. The tree was split for me..and heavy.

Mine was not easy to make - I think Ray Mear's way was easier thank what Doc showed - but he was just giving options and it certainly was a hair trigger.

As you can see I used the ever present resource in the woods for the weight - a pressure treated bit of lumber and a sub woofer that got fried in Hurricaine Ike! ;)

naked, look under "all posts by siguy" on my profile (statistics), it is probably one of the more recent ones. "ray mears figure 4" or something like that.

talfuchre, cool! looks good. i haven't tried it yet, i like the simplicity of the regular fig 4, but if all goes well i will give it a go this weekend.

I find that carving the one I showed takes quite a bit of effort, much more so than the regular Fig. 4, especially if you're using a hard wood as you should.

I think you'll find, though, that it is generally more sensitive.
