Silky Big Boy 2000 XL

The only downside here is the cost of replacement blades. The Boreal 21 is next on my list.

I just picked up the Boreal 21. Awesome saw. It was a little longer/larger than I expected, so it didn't knock my Silky Super Accel out of my pack. You're sure right about the blades though. I dropped the money for an extra blade for the Silky because there is a chance a guy could break it and I think it was like thirty bucks. Blades for the Boreal are only about ten bucks. If weight were the only factor, then it's a no-brainer to have an extra blade stowed in the pack for either saw. That's some nice equipment Eagle Scout

Silver Needle Silver Needle Awesome photos brother! Thanks for posting. I love seeing people's reactions when they see the the BigBoy in action. Instant fans.
Thanks! I agree. Also, I forgot to mention that I enjoyed the video you made. You are easy to listen to, have good information and very good production value. I'm now subscribed!

Eagle Scout Eagle Scout Very nice line up of saws! How much time or use (not sure what's easier to measure) did you get out of your first blade?

I put it on my X-mas list. Will be opening up one bad ass package on Christmas day I hope.

YEAH BOYYYYYYYYYYYY!
I got me one for Christmas! It is beautiful! I have not used it yet, just stared at it for hours on end thus far. Rest assured.... I will post up a review when I pop it's cherry.

Heck yeah congrats brother! looking forward to your thoughts on it

I've got the Boreal. Uses regular blades from the hardware store as well. Opens up easily. Got the leather sheath for it. Nice kit

For Christmas I upgraded (well, probably downgraded) my bigboy 2000 with a straight blade with large teeth.

The original curved blade exposed a few teeth in the middle of the handle in the closed position and they caught on things a few times including my finger tips.

I'm anxious to do some test cutting with both blades to see if there's a difference in performance.

If you get some time to test the two blades I'd really like to hear your thoughts Matt. I came within a whisker of grabbing a straight blade for my ultra accel when I bought the spare. In the end I stuck with the curved because it was a known factor. I hope you are doing good my friend. Happy 2018!

I'll definitely follow up. I just need my habitat to warm up a bit, I lose my desire to play outside when the high for the day is below zero
Happy New Year!

Good question. Maybe six months of use a few times a week. Hardwood and pine here in New England. It's easy to know when the blade is loosing it's edge. They are so damn toothy sharp and fast new.
What tooth option did you get?
I also live in new england and encounter the same stuff. Pine and hardwoods. Looking to be able to cut hardwood relatively fast but not get clogged up when cutting soft woods. I know it will likely be a compromise but, reading all these reviews im sure i will be thrilled with the performance.

Have only used the orange handled Big Boy with XL teeth. Very aggressive cutter regardless of species.

I had a chance to play around with my 2 Silky bigboy blades today and produce a few very unscientific results. Over all the new, straight blade out-performed the 18 month old, curved blade.

The old blade is the original, curved blade that came with my bigboy 2000 with XL size teeth. The new blade has large teeth and the blade is straight. I cut through several maple limbs ranging in diameter of 3 to 6 inches. The new blade got through each cut with fewer strokes. The new blade's advantage was only in the single digits and I doubt I would have noticed if I wasn't counting, but I did count..... in the name of science!

For me, I enjoy the peace of mind that the straight blade provides keeping all the teeth covered by the handle. I haven't heard of any other person on this planet having an issue packing the curved blade, but I've managed to catch my finger tips (not enough to hurt myself, but enough to notice) and material and items in my backpack on the exposed teeth of the curved blade.

Real feedback, thank you SN!!

I'm glad to hear that the straight blade performed so well. Makes me wish I grabbed one to try as my spare. Also, I don't have the trouble with the exposed teeth on the curved blade of the ultra accel, but they would frustrate me if they were. The two notches on the back of the blade catch on stuff in the closed position in my pack enough to annoy me, so I get where you're coming from.
