Hi everyone,

I was poking around the forums and noticed that the BK7 & BK9's were shipped for a while with the BK13 remora....I recently got a BK9 which did not include the BK13 and was wondering if it was worth purchasing and adding to the sheath as the slot is there witht he plastic insert as well? Also the first run of these were made in China and now they are made in the USA, is there any marking's on the blade to indicate country of origin that I should look for before buying?

Thanks for any and all input.

Yes you need a Remora. The China ones were only offered with the large knives. If you buy one now it will be USA and marked as such. I have several of them.

You gotta have a 13!!!! I've got several of each, US and china, and can tell no differance other than cosmetic. The little guy is a handy little blade, and perfect for most EDC chores.

To me the 13 is too small. I have a chinese one that came with my BK9 and it does say so.

Yup, get it.

Just so you can show off the sheath with the little one inside. It's a seriously satisfying Ooooo and Aaahhhh moment.

Silly answer: Yes; Giraffes do take longer than most to swallow food.

Seriously though; I have both and would say get the American version. The hollow grind is much nicer than the China made FFG. It's small but incredibly handy. I use mine a lot more than I thought I would.

i have one handy little knife for when the bk2 is a bit muck i carry in a survial tin sheath on the front of the bk2 sheath!

Nice little blade. I carved a wood spirit with one:

Well damn it guess it look's like I will be getting one. I do have a small knife of comparable size, a Bark River OMF. Great little blade, insanely sharp and great edge retention with A2 steel and a convex edge but my major issue is will rust faster then I can eat a Big Mac! Since the remora is stainless I will get that and add to the BK9 sheath....maybe I will grease the blade on the barkie and add it to the emergency kit in the suv. Thanks for the input everyone. I am greatly impressed but the wealth of knowledge and input from the people here in the Becker forums. Thanks again.

And to "The Warrior"...awesome carving. Good to see what a small blade is capable of.

the question is not about getting one it about how many should I get, 5 or 10. I just got mine yesterday and so far so good wrapping the handle is a must though. moose tried to teach me a new wrap but alas i do struggle.

I have have two US made ones and a Chinese made one that I modded.

For the cost, they are kind of nice to have for small things and they weight almost nothing.

I'm sure I will get a few but I do have to pace myself. Bought the BK2 last year, just got the BK9 and am planning on buying the 10, 4 and 24...might have to sell off some other brands I have...crap.

I'm an end-user, and I am very rough on my blades, so from my experience, don't feel bad about selling other blades to fund Beckers. I promise you'll get your moneys worth outa them, if you use them the way they were meant to be.

Wow, you learn something new everyday (or at least should)! Happy I finally joined this site. :D
I had no idea they switched to USA fabricated versions. When did this come about?

My BK7 was purchased about four years ago? It came with a Chinese made Remora variant, which was a total surprise to me. I opened the box, checked out the BK7, smiled profusely, and proceeded to inspect the sheath. It was like finding a twenty dollar bill on the street.

sorry, i cannot advise, in any way shape or form, that you buy one

i suggest you buy at least three :) cover shipping better :)

quite a few of the larger knives have the mini pocket for the BK13 now. just stock up and store :>

Well, I agree with everyone else. I've got two now, and I think it's a great ("perfect"?) back-up knife for backpacking: small, light, inexpensive, and seemingly tough enough to handle small batoning chores, etc.

The BK-13 is awesome. I have cleaned alot of trout with it and even made a shelter out of a Christmas tree and a baton with a chinese made BK-13.

I say go for it.
