I've read lot's of warnings about silnylon and how it will go up in flames if a spark lands on it. I remember one post about a guy who regularly uses a silnylon tarp around fires and claims the sparks only make a tiny hole no different from other nylon tarps. (I can't remember if I read it on this forum or another.) So tonight I took a small strip of silnylon about 2" x 1/4" and tried to light it with a ferro rod. I put the tip of the ferro rod down on the center of the strip and scraped quickly and repeatedly. I got lots of little burn marks but didn't get a flame until about the eighth strike. The flame burned for a second or two and then went out leaving two unburned 3/4 inch pieces of material. I'm thinking silnylon isn't so dangerous around fire after all. Thoughts?
