Silver bolsters?

I really like the look of the silver bolsters on the 110 and 112.

Is there any particular years that they were produced and how rare are they?

Thanks for any info you might be able to share.

Someone will now better than me but most 110s with NS bolsters are limited edition, custom shop and special project knives. I don't know of any 110s that were in production with NS bolsters. These are only as rare as the desire to own one, there out there. I have two for sale on the Buck knife sale site. Both are '02's

The 0110BRSNK-B is in the web specials on the Buck website. I don't believe they're particularly rare, but they're limited.

The 112's are harder to find, but if I remember right, they made some in the mid 1990's.

The 110's can be had as SP knives with charcoal dymondwood scales, or Buck currently offers the 110 in nickel silver with standard obeechee scales on their web specials page at www.buckknives.com

0110BRSNK-B Folding Hunter®$45.00

Also, I believe SMKW has the nickel silver 110 for around that price.
Another option would be to order a custom shop 110 from Buck as well!

Not rare, but usually only used on special projects, limited editions & customs as mbjannusch already stated. They aren't silver, though, they are nickel silver, which someone in this forum informed me was really a "white brass", an alloy of copper. It doesn't tarnish like silver, which is good for maintenance. NS has a classy look, while brass looks more "rustic". I like then both, but for my special knives, it's the NS. :)

Something I found, odd, ironic, unfortunate is that the N/S seems to scratch even from pocket carry with no change or anything, much, much easier than brass bolsters. I carried my giraffe bone 532, 1 day in my pants pocket at work with nothing else, same for my 111 and they both showed scratches:confused::( I really thought it would be the opposite.

This is true. To me NS is either for the showcase where it won't be scratched by anything, or for use where the scratches and scuffs are just the norm, character marks, I guess. I have a Sambar Stag 110 in S30V and NS as one of three knives for daily use. After a year of use, all the scratches in the bolsters sorta blend to a uniform matt pattern. If you want to keep that mirror finish, though, you can't use it.

I have a NS 112, it's a 1993(I think, it has a / on it), recently saw one just like it go for a whopping $26 on the bay.

I really prefer the NS bolsters myself. Here's one that is nice if you don't mind the blade etch (I like it). It makes a nice "dress up" knife. The Buck number on the box is "0110GYSSP59-B" and has a born on date of 10/09/2007. It also has an aftermarket sticker that says "Buck110WT".

I believe () SP59 stands for Special Projects, but as best I can tell, the etching and bolster work is aftermarket. I have no idea who did it.

Is the Charcoal Diamond Wood aftermarket too? Deadwood knives has these for sale and I really like the handles.

No they are factory, they are special orders/limited runs for distributers like SMKW to my understanding. Bay sellers like Deadwood and Digital freaks seem to be able to get thier hands on quite a few. Maybe directly from Buck but I dont know.

I agree with you Plum that N/S is the way to go looks wise. I carried a 110 for years thinking how cool it would be if it were available in N/S and I'm certain during many of those years they were available and I just didnt know it:o(there should acutally be a "duh" smilie)

I prefer NS also. I used to long for the day when Buck would make the 110 in NS. Before the internet I rarely saw one and they would have a premium price tag on them.

personally I think Brass looks more traditional in a 110 and 112 for that matter. When someone pulls out that Brass handled knife you know its a Buck and it gets your attention. Maybe it is or maybe it isn't but you still look. When you see that it is, it makes it all worth the extra time it took to tell. Not all knives have that effect on me at least.

I think if Buck had offered NS all along everyone would be scrambling to get the relatively scarce brass bolsters. As it is, Buck has offered brass all along and everyone scrambles to collect the NS. :D

I picked up a 1995 nickel silver 112 the other day. It's in pretty good shape, but with the typical silver scratches, but nothing too bad and it would be easily fixed at the Buck shop. That said, it has a lot of character, so I don't think I'll send it in. Blade is I'm guessin 90to 95% with a few typical work and sharpening scratches. Figured it was a rarity and I could always get my money back if I get tired of it. I needed it like I need a hole in my had, but it was a steal at $15. I like brass 110's, but the Nickel really grows on you. It's color reminds me of the beloved 500 series.
