On page 17 of the Feb 2001 Blade magazine is an ad for a (knife??) called the Silver Crescent. It has a UNIQUE shape and comes with a nice wooden stand. It's made by Asa Savage Designs in Warwickshire, England.
What separates this from the usual fantasy knife ads is the price, $499.95!!
Has anyone seen this yet?? Any pictures of other designs by the maker?? The ad says that the Silver Crescent will immediatly become the center of attention wherever it is displayed!!

I just noticed the price on the "Silver Crescent" while looking for an article in a back issue of blade. I started laughing my ass off. $500 US for a piece of chromed high carbon steel that is ~12" OAL and has no handle scales or any type of embellishment. The ad makes a big deal out of the fact that it is "pierced" which means it has some "fantasy" holes in it. I will admit that overall it is interesting looking, but I can buy some really nice custom stuff for $500! The ad also proudly proclaims that Asa Savage, the designer, has been making knives as a hobby for TWO whole years. That automatically makes it worth 5 Franklins!

I guess I never looked closely at that ad when I got the magazine because it looked so much like a Franklin Mint ad.

Mr. Savage, if you read this...Oh, I can't apologize for this post. Five hundred dollars?!? For a foot long piece of, what 1095? Whooo-boy! Hysterical.

Paul,
Thanks for bringing this thread back to life. I read the title in my Email notification and it took a few moments to realize what it was!!!
I agree about the material and the price....... But what the HECK IS it??? How do you hold it?? Does it double as the ignition key for an Alien spaceship

To me, the stand looks more impressive than the "knife"! Maybe it's a Karambit that fits an Aliens hand

I realy like some of the fantasy knives out there, made by some of the well know makers. Usually, even the most extreme examples could be used as a knife, sword or egded weapon. Someone would have to SHOW me how the Silver Crescent works!!

Neil,
It reminds me of something the alien in Predator would shoot at his victims, because there really seem to be no handle as we know it. Maybe it was made for aliens that lack hands! It could also be a Klingon picnic fork. Maybe it's just a really silly design. The stand does look fairly decent, but is it worth $450?

It would be great if somebody would come on here and enlighten us as to what we are missing. Though I don't think we're missing anything. As I said, I thought it was amusing when I first glanced at it, but when I saw the price I thought it was forking hilarious.
