ok so i want to make some micarta using a black fabric with a course weaved silver colored material. i think something with a course weave similar to burlap or cheese cloth, i want to be able to see the black through the gaps in the silver material

does anyone have any idea where i can find something like this? i dont even know if a material like this even exists. I just think it would look really cool.

so far all ive come up with is buying some cheese cloth or burlap type material and then spray painting it silver. i want the threads in the mesh material that is somewhere between cheese cloth and burlap i think the cheese cloth threads are too small and at least the burlap ive seen the threads are too big but i like how the cheese cloth threads are nice and neat compared to the burlap which is kinda tattered

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

if i cant get a silver material i like i was thinking of doing a tan fabric with a black colored mesh. one question i have is can i use a plastic mesh material layered with cloth fabric or should the mesh be some type of cloth as well? im thinking of a material like a screen for a window but plastic instead of metal.

Some aluminum window screen comes to mind. I am not sure how well it would work but it seems like it would fit the bill. Might be scratchy on the hand though. Maybe after sanding the handle it would make the ends smooth enough that it would be ok.

The silver twill micarta being sold by suppliers is glass fiber composite with a twill weave. It looks like silver carbon fiber.

Looks like texalium to me... It's fiberglass with a vapor deposited aluminum layer. Shiny like a metallic CF but not as strong.

I absolutely hate Texalium. It is crazy expensive and it is really not that great looking ... plus it is like grabbing a porcupine. I bought a good bit of it and most of those knives are in my tool box.

Try soft aluminum screen and see how it does.

A plethora of mesh products are available at McMaster Carr > Raw Materials > Wire Cloth

Might try a fabric store. I found something similar to you description at hobby lobby and Joanns craft stores.

Whatever you use will be exposed at the edges and surfaces. That will make sharp places that will poke you. No matter how carefully you sand and buff, the softer resin and cloth will wear more exposing the very sharp ends of the metal.
