Simonich custom vs. production?

I was just drooling over the talonite knives pictured on Rob Simonich's webpage when I noticed that "order" links indicated that there was a differentiation between custom and non-custom knife orders. I was under the impression that all of Rob Simonich's knives were custom orders. Can somebody clear this up for me? I'm considering getting something similar to the "stretched" talonite cetan with blue/black G2 scales pictured on his starting page.

All knives are custom made (hand made) but you can customize the basic models (choose blade lenght and material, handle material, sheath...)

One day I will get the Cetan - right now I am working on my own version of the knife (blade supplied by Mike Irie).

By all means, give Rob a try, although you'll have a bit of a wait. His work is very classy, he has a simplicity of style that is deceiving, as all good work is. He's easy to work with too. Talonite is something that has to be used to be appreciated.

Felix, rest assured that Rob's work is handmade and top notch all the way.

On top of that, he's a heck of a good guy.

Let us know how you like your knife when the time comes.

Like Brian said, the talonite knives are something else!

Greetings To All,

I had Rob Simonich make me a custom knife that is beyond perfection. It is a 8 inch long, flat grind, drop point with a small round guard. It is made out of 1/4 inch A2 steel & has black G10 handles. The knife has been completely bead blasted with ceramic material, black powder coated & it is extremely sharp...The sheath is made from Concealex & is extremely well made as well. It comes up 3/4 of the length of the knife, has a well made belt loop, which will never break & a 1 inch leg strap. I had this knife made for extreme field/utility use & there is NOTHING like in the world. It is perfect in every way for what is was designed for. I call it the "Norden"...Nor for Norway & Den for Sweden...I am Scandinavian. I am now very patiently waiting for a smaller version of the Nordens (I have 2 of these)...called the "Scandi's". They will be 4 3/4 inch long & will be virtually identical to the Nordens. To say that I am extremely pleased with Rob's work is in truth an understandment. Rob is a very nice man who is extremely easy to work & his patience is without end. I have the highest regard for him that is without measure. Know this to be true...this man is a perfectionist & a true artist is every sence of the word.

Thanks for the info everyone. Dag-nabbit, don't have the cash right now to get something from Rob Simonich (Christmas and big-item purchases bleeding me dry). I'll definitely put something on order next year, though (probably a slightly larger, modified cetan, in talonite of course). Thanks again.

Felix,

Most of the folks around here know that I'm a big fan of both Rob's work and Talonite. (BTW, I'm the guy mentioned in the Talonite Project on Rob's page... his first Talonite blade, the first Wambli, is mine.)

Rob had a section on his web page describing a semi-custom effort he was going to undertake which would provide Talonite Cetans to customers quicker and cheaper. Essentially he was going to use laser cuting and other modern technology to reduce fabrication time. They were to be stamped his "Simonich signature Series".

That page is no longer present. All I can say is stand by... more news is afoot and soon with the same overall objectives his SSS line embodied.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll definitely be checking the forums every single day for updates on Rob Simonich's semi-production talonite line. I'll be counting the days!
