Steven,
Berk was kind enough to post this picture for me since the wonders and magic of the ethernet and I aren't getting along.

This is a knife made by Sheffield in England around 1880 for the 2nd Prince of Wales' Own Goorkha Regiment (the Sirmoor Rifles).

It is incredibly well made and the grip is the same steel as the deeply grooved blade.
The chape and throat are finely engraved and the cho is finely cut and unique.

A very rare piece and it is my pleasure to share with my fellow forumites.

That's a beautiful knife John. Is it yours or is it in a collection somewhere?

Acute Attack of "gotta have one" pending. Now that would be one to make a copy of to send the kamis.

BTW whoever said it was right, Berk has been unusually helpful here and on other threads. Your help has been appreciated. Simply but sincerely, Thank You Much. Rusty

John Moses designed it, I trust it, and that settles it.

An absolute thumbs up to Berk for posting the photos I can't get through.

I will send off more, but realize it is extra time for Berk (or whomever) to do this for me.

QM3SS: yes, this is in my permanent collection, but I will be posting more pix of 2 other similar khukuris.

Guys,
My pleasure to help John share some of the beauties from his marvellous collection. Since he mentioned it, here's one of the similar ones alongside the Sirmoor. IIRC, it's an Indian copy of C. 1890(?)

Rusty et al,
All the PhotoPoint pictures that were up this morning are gone now, and the PhotoPoint server appears to be down. With luck they'll come back sometime...I guess...maybe

Now they ( pictures )are back up.

Hmmm. The english made sheffield bowies - don't know if they were more common than the made in country ones, but there were lots. So why not a copy of a brit khuk?

Rusty,
According to Sheffield these khukuris (where or where are the others?) were custom made for specific regiments. They were not produced for sale like their famous "Bowies".

They have none of the original drawings but do still have a few order slips from the late 1800s. They have promised me copies, but that was months ago.

These are great, one solid piece of steel,I like that. Shades of Chris Reeve.Cheers , Mark

Mark,
It is not one piece of steel.
The grip is perfectly fitted with a barely visible hairline seam that curves along with the top of the bolster.
It also appears the knob on the butt is seperate and the grip was made in 2 halves and expertly joined.
Quite an amzingly well done piece of engineering.

John, if you don't mind me asking where do you find all those great old knives? That is one of the best looking knives I have ever seen.
