Simoora Kothimora 1800

John asked me to post pics of the most recent addition, newly arrived from England:

Berkley/John,

Incredible pieces, and a wonderful service you are performing. Would it be possible to post a photo showing the comparitive blades?

Many Thanks,

Finn

They say Indian to me, too, but that in no way says they are inferior. Some of the Indian blades are incredibly well done. In fact, I have one myself with an ivory handle which lies under the bed for dust bunny feed.

Photos of blade comparison soon Finn.

If Bill thinks Indian and I think Indian I will call it Indian. Interesting blades with a fuller running along the top ridge and then one down the middle of the blade and the chirra between the two. This is the better of the 2 blades but neither approaches the Sheffield made piece.

Thanks very much John. It should be inspiring. I like to keep my learning curve on the incline.

I have always been impressed at how the Indians (not to mention the Nepalese) can take a wide, massive blade pattern and make it look graceful.

The 20" AK I got from Bill not long ago shows that combination of power and grace. I am very proud of it.

The Sheffield piece shows that "silken" look to the finish in the photo. I know something of Japanese sword polishing, but know very little of how the Sheffield cutlers got those amazing blade finishes.

Again, Thanks.

Finn

By the way Bill,

Out of regard I haven't been able to bring myself to call you "Uncle", because if you were MY uncle you'd be a veritable Methusela.

Best Regards,

Finn

I think he spelled it with an "h" at the end.

Then again, he's dead, and left no khukuris, so.....

If old age takes away your hair and teeth, why not a few letters of your name, huh?
