Hi guys-

Just thought I'd share this little giz-wiz for kicks.

When shaping a guard that needs to be finished out before the knife is glued-up, I do a lot of handwork with files and sandpaper. This super simple little fixture allows me to easily and securely hold a guard or spacer while shaping/finishing.

It's as simple as could be, but boy is it nice to be able to set the work-piece to a comfortable position. The rotating head vise is definitely a key element here. :)

Oh, they're definitely out there. The father of one of my high school buddies was an old school machinist, and he had more FANCY SHMANCY fixtures and jigs on one short wall than I have in the whole shop. My stuff is all amateur hour next to the stuff he did.

A giz-wiz like this one is all about working in a more natural/comfortable position.

Heck, I have two little cards that say I'm certified to weld 1" plate vertically and overhead.... but if I have my choice, I'd rather weld something sitting flat on the fab table. ;) :)
