A quick test of a simple lap joint haft for socket axes. The ideal is a curved branch or a few more complicated two-piece celt handles, but this construction method was fast and easily done with small diameter wood, and held up well enough to stand in for a more proper haft while one is being found (curved branch) or made (mortised two-piece handle.) The test head was the first-generation Traveler's Celt prototype. Currently waiting on the third generation sample to arrive, which has an oval socket and thicker bit than this first-gen example.
