Garryale,

I enjoyed your photos and accounts of your hunting trip. I haven't been on this forum very long and didn't see the photos of your earlier trip but will look it up next.

I am a former Marine and was a rifle instructor after I got back from Korea in 1953 or 54 and have always had a fondness for shooting. I worked in engineering at Douglas Aircraft which merged with McDonnell and finally was bought out by Boeing for 39 years. No hunting was possible locally but I took up "free diving" which is essentially hunting under water. Spear guns have only one shot so you have to learn to be a good shot or you don't spear too many fish.

When I was getting ready to retire I wanted to move to northern Arizona to do some regular bird hunting -- maybe get another German Shorthaired Pointer. But my wife didn't want to leave her elderly parents so I agreed to retire to San Jacinto -- a rural area in Southern California. I still have several rifles but they don't get used. These include a couple of SKSs and one Mosin Nagent Carbine purchased in new condition several years ago -- has a nice bayonet. ;)

At 80 I've outlived all the friends I could go hunting with, but I enjoy hiking often -- 2 or 3 times a week and now hunt with a camera:

With my two dogs, a 120 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback (Ben) and a 25 pound Schnoodle (my wife's lapdog, Duffy who wants to be my dog when we hike):

I was in long-term communication with a fellow whom I think lived in Moscow a few years back He may have worked for the government. He came onto my blog and wanted to debate the Red Army and how it was the greatest army still in the entire world. He also thought Russia had the most beautiful women. I only debated with him about military matters however. :D

Lawrence

Hi there Mr. Lawrence.
Let me answer to you step by step, as American English is not my mother tongue it will take me quite some time.
First of all thank you for your words about my humble photo story.

As I understand Marine ( and especially US Marine) is never former or ex Marine, such opinion I have gained watching US movies and seeing many other materials in Internet , there are many people in the World, who are fond of Marines their training course, equipment style of life, ways of taking in local conflicts, in bigger wars etc.
I mean all those USMC , SEAL Team Six, MARSOC, DEVGRU, operation against Al Caeda leader etc.
I have read the book by one American Marine "Generation of Killers" about war in Iraq , now I am listening to audio book "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Lutrell about their operation in Afghanistan etc. And I have read two books of Tom Clancy , "Hunting for Red October ", "Rainbow Six" , now I am reading "Ghost Recon Choke Point" by Tom Clancy with Peter Telep.
It is a very interesting thing for me to have discussion with US Marine.

I have heard about those corporations which you mentioned MC Donnell Douglas , Boeing . Douglas is a well known name In Russia fro the WWII , as Americans supplied the passenger and transport and bomber aircraft Douglass DC-3 to Russia by Lend-Lease treaty between USA and USSR. In Russia it was called "Li 2".

Yes , I agree that hunting underwater is not easy at all, having the only one possibility to shoot , someone must have tough nerves and strong temper to finally get that same deadly shot. I think your service in the USMC helped you many times in your entire life and in hunting , be it underwater or on the Earth.

I know those dogs you told me of, in German there are three of them : Langhaar, Drathaar, and Kurzhaar which Short haired dog. Nice choice for hunting many people say that Kurzhaar is multi functional dog in hunting,. It can help tot trace wounded anymal by bloody prints, it can help with hunting for birds in fields showing direction for bird and rousing it in the air and retrieve bird to the hunter.

Interesting which rifles you prefer, if I remember right SKS is 7,62 x 39, same caliber and ammo as AK47, Mosin-Nagant rifle uses my ammo 7, 62 x 54 I am well familiar with. My Tiger (SVD type) rifle uses the same ammo 7,62 x54, but new ammo has been modified many times , nowadays they have new type of powder, new type of bullet, full metal jacket , half metal jacket, lead + steel combined bullet, crimper at the entrance to the barrel ( tight diameter) after the chamber ,modified type of necking of bullet in shell and some other modifications.
I think Americans have many other types of rifles for hunting, sniping, varmint etc., such as for example Remington 700 series bolt action. Barret counter sniper and anti- material rifle of 0.50 BMG caliber etc.

Getting older, I have already thought and sometimes think about photo hunting as well. Sometimes those wild creatures are so nice, that the passion to pull a trigger simply retreats.

About Russian Army: Yes, it is the best army:thumbup: in the whole world:D. Frankly, what else I can tell about it being a patriot of my country. I stay at this my position whatever arguments are used against this statement.:D I am a senior lieutenant of tank troops of Russian Army,tank-man, in reserve of course. And I am not a serious specialist in many other types of Military Forces of Russian Federation.

He also thought Russia had the most beautiful women. I only debated with him about military matters however.
Heck, Yes, They are the most beautiful women.:D Germans , Italians many other nationalities have already acknowledged it as a world known fact :D
Make up, high heels , slim dresses, short skirts , many other women's things, all this they do right from the wake up and till the late evening :D
There are many real and natural beauties on our streets everywhere, someone must have the strong neck :D going down our streets rotating in different directions looking at them :D I do not recommend to make it when with your wife or with girlfriend. :D In this case the ballistic bulletproof helmet must be worn on man's head.:D
Our women could be considered even more beautiful than Angelina Jolie, Kim Basinger, Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron even Marilin Monro...
