I was quite pleased with myself Friday. Due to the logistics of being a suddenly one car family, I chose to walk to local mall from work instead of wait to be picked up. I got into the mind set of "alright, something has happened at work, I can't get to my car and I have to walk out of here with my briefcase and what I have on me." I enjoyed the heck out of it. 2.6 miles in under an hour. I also got to see what kind of resources were around on the way. There were a few, but mostly I noticed a lot of hot women playing golf (so I got distracted :D)
Pros:
lighter and hotspark in my pocket
Buck prince, Schrade oldtimer with a longer blade and a saw
PSK with ferro rod, lighter, cord, 1st aid zip locks and water pur pills.
I always wear good leather hiking boots instead of dress shoes at work
I had a light coat if it got cold
32oz nalgene bottle that I take to work everyday
Cons: I really don't have any shelter materials with me. If it had gotten dark and cold and I couldn't make a fire for some reason, life would have sucked. Need to add some contractors bags or a plastic dropcloth in there
My briefcase is a soft shoulder bag and it gets heavy on one shoulder. For the last mile I carried it in my hand. Better than nothing, but not optimal. However I can't see myself wearing a pack to work. Hm.

I have an (admittedly nylon) case that can be carried by a hand strap, shoulder strap, or a set of shoulder straps that hide behind a zip panel. Holds about 1800 cu. inches.
