Can anybody school me on Busse and Swamp Rat knives? I think I want to try one out, but a quick reading of the other forums has me wanting to keep my mouth shut for fear of looking like a total n00b. I so far am interested in the Busse Batac and the Swamp Rat M6. Seem about the right size for what I want, seem to be very well regarded. Prices are not ridiculous, though definitely not Gerber cheap. I've looked on-line for them... almost none on that auction site, a bunch here but a lot of time people don't post pics, just model numbers. Its almost as if its an exclusive club and you better know the handshake. That's another reason I figured I'd ask here, I feel like I can ask dumb questions without being dismissed out of hand.

The company websites seem to not have much inventory for sale. So where do you go looking for them? Ontario Rat knives seem to be more common.

I moved this to the Cantina as it does not relate to HI knives.

The Bussekin knives(Busse, SwampRat, Scrap Yard) are usually sold in batches so you have to keep an eye on their respective forums to know when something is coming up for sale. Busse also sells through the Busse Company store Swamp Rat sells from The Swamp Rat Company Store and Scrap yard sells from their website.

All the Busse knives are well built and have great reputations. The Busse steel Infi is their top of the line steel, SR-101 is next in line, and SR-77 is the entry level. SR-77 is very tough steel. Check out the respective websites for more info and be prepared to jump when there is a Ganza. It's kinda like a DOTD but less frequent.

Don't worry about looking like a newbie in the Busse forum. They're a good bunch of guys and are always willing to answer any questions.

just made a deal for a new, never sharpened Busse "Welcome to the Suck" limited edition knife with a spec-ops combat master sheath for $350 shipped. Seems like a fair deal.

....and some of the Hog's come and hang out with the Sharks from time to time

tedwca pretty much nailed it.

BATAC's show up on the BF Busse exchange, the Busse Company Store sold out of Badger's awhile back. The only source is the secondary market, or possibly some showing up on a Ganza.

Come on over and ask your questions in the Busse forum ! (or you can PM me)

You get to learn the secret handshake after induction, as well as the Hog salute,

plus there's the magic Busse decoder ring :D

BATAC, SHBA, SJTAC, FFBM, BPLrMrS, CPABA :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Congratulation on a Great Score !!

I'm a Satin Jack fan my self !

It's

"Embrace The Suck"

do you know the story behind that special run ?

sorry playing Conan on the main machine while posting... meant embrace. From what I heard Delta sold their's to raise money for a project in a village in the Stan and when Busse heard they did another run for Delta and made few extras for sale.

I was going to PM you this, but now everyone can see.

hey hiram, like jimmy said, go on over to the busse forum....those guys will welcome you with open arms....:D

knives are knives and there is a lot of crossover between fans of HI and busse.....

i personally own a few busse knives myself: AK47, FBMSE, FFBM, FBMLE, CGASH, skinny ASH........

don't worry, those abbreviations will become second nature to you.....:D

come on in, the water is warm, and it feels just right for us sharks!!!

HR, don't fear the Busse folks. I met a dozen or more at Blade Show, and they're quality people.

The trick to Busse buying is to watch and buy direct. The friendly folk in their area will help you out by proxying if you ask nicely. You get the knives WAY cheaper fromt he company than you do aftermarket.

The problem is, when I went to Busse's website they didn't have squat for sale... or I'm looking in the wrong place.

No, thats true. They only sell one model at a time. They don't stock old models. Right now they're peddling the ASH-1. Its a winner IMO.

The store has a few more options.

Yes, it's a mystery. But you can order one model here:

http://bussecombat.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BCKC&Category_Code=KNF

You can also go to http://www.bussecompanystore.com/
where, strangely, different models are for sale IF they are also listed in the "Order" menu at that site.

Same company. Two sites. Different models.

Then there's the SwampRat and JunkYard business. Different product lines by the same company.

But who's to criticise if it's far from customer friendly. He sells all he makes.

Here's a glamour shot of my BATAC

The RatManDu may be another one you'd like.

Located at the same address.

Busse Combat Knife Co.
11651 County Rd. 12
Wauseon, OH 43567

BUSSE COMPANY STORE is in Idaho, the address for Wauseon is for warranty work only. Skunk ships from Idaho as I can personally attest to.

They are two separate companies and ship from two different locations. Swamp Rat ships from Kentucky and until recently Scrapyard was in Texas. They have just moved to Wauseon, OH
