Since we're on footwear...an optimistic question about running shoes

Thanks man! If you made it to a hundred and fifty five years old and you're still running at all I figure you must be a serious expert!

Sorry, I have a strong tendency to sarcasm whether necessary or helpful or not! I really do appreciate the tips, though! This thread has been very helpful to me.

It's alright:D As soon as I posted I thought "damn I probably should've put 'lbs'"
This is "radical" and new but I've done it and its gotten some press lately. Running barefoot. Shoes aren't natural on your feet. They do cause problems, believe it or not and many athletes have helped their issues by going barefoot. It's been written about in "Runners' World" and just today I read an article about it in "The Week." I've done it mostly in the spring and summer for 2 miles at the most, once or twice a week. Other times I would do my warmups and cool downs barefoot. I find that it helps with strengthening the feet and ankles and stretches the same better. Your results may vary of course. Just another idea to consider (more likely when you feel like you're at a better state of fitness/health)

I've always been an ADIDAS fan. I have wide feet too and find they fit the best. I have tried NIKE ACG shoes and sandles and find them alittle tite, especially the shoes. Ended up throwing the shoes out. The sandles work for me , but only for a few hours and I have to take them off. A little off but I just recieved a pair of TEVA Toachi sandles and find them to be ok. The fit is good, but the arch is a tad bit high. I'm trying to break them in now and hopefully all will be good.

Well, I ended up getting a pair of size 13 Montrail Hard Rocks...they sure are comfortable but I won't really get the chance to take them into the bush until next weekend. They are definitely a good stable shoe though!

new balance would be my first choice for a trail running shoe, north face also used to make a couple good ones. As for the broken ankle that sucks man, I've broken mine twice and severly sprained it twice, needless to say that ankle has almost nothing left to it

ive got the same problem with my feet . low volume , wide and a skinny heel. personally ive found la sportiva shoes and boots to work the best . pay attention to the lasts that any company uses and stick with the manufactures that fit best .

I have some of the same issues stated earlier, plus I have destructive psoriatic arthritis. It has really been beating my lower back, hips, knees and feet lately, so I had to widen my shoe rotation for work and play. As I am a die-hard Danner guy and I use Superfeet in all my shoes, it was hard to consider something different than that and an occasional good pair of Nikes or New Balance. I stumbled onto a shoe I thought was just for the trendy Outside Magazine types, but had to try it out. I have to say that Keen shoes are the most supportive and comfortable shoes I have ever tried out of the box. I can only hope they hold up through a couple seasons of my outdoors/trail hobbling. We'll see.
