Anyone done a single bevel hollow grind?

A friend of mine wants a 1095 skinner blade 4" in length with a single bevel on the left side (spine up) done in a hollow sabre. I haven't done one of these, and in my head it just seems "weird" will it perform decent? should i try and talk him out of it, or just do it and forget about it? I'd hate just to see work go into something that might not be up to par.

Most find that chisel grind is good for chisels and to thinly slice veggies for sushi etc. Not very good for anything else. But if that's what he wants make it and get comments after he's used it.

Keep in mind also on the left hand and right handed chisel grinds each works in a specific way.

Is he ambidextrous? Chisel grinds (one sided flat grinds) are oriented (little pun there) for a right or left handed use. While this type of grind would work great for a right hander on the left side of the carcass, he'd have to switch hands to skin on the right side if you get my drift. While trying to skin on the right side of the carcass the grind will "dig in" and will most likely pull into the meat.

He may not understand that it does not make much sense so I think you should try to educate him. It is highly likely that once he realizes that the grind is not very good for what he wants he will have you do it properly.

As a knife maker I think it is your job to try and educate clients as much as you can. If in the end he still wants that grind than he can have it...IMHO
