I favor my jacks, scout knives and stockmen, but I have come to truly appreciate the beauty and utility of a single blade jack. Then I rediscovered the single blade trappers. The Great Eastern 48, Case bearhead trapper, Queen 11, Great Eastern 23 and Great Eastern 73. I see that the Great Eastern 73's are based on the old Remington trappers, same for the 23's. The Queen 11, Case bht and GEC 48 are based on the more recognized trapper pattern.

What are the specific names of these patterns? Bear/bare head trappers? Slimline trappers? Would saddlehorn knives fit in this category (I have a custom single blade saddlehorn)? What about the Ben Hogan pattern?

I know I am notorious for not providing pics all the time, let's see your single blade trappers, both custom and factory made.

I have a couple different Queen Mountain Man trappers both with bone handles and D-2 blades. No photo's right now but really like the knives.

I also have a really nice Mountain Man slipjoint with zebrawood scales, actually came sharp from the knife store! I thought that was more of the folding hunter variety, is it considered a trapper?

I've just got these two Schrades...Both liner locking...

Both are very thin bladed, and have exceptionally keen edges...

PS
I also lean toward single blade pocket knives these days.

The Case one is what Case calls a slimline trapper and is also bareheaded in that it only has a bolster at the pivot. If it didn't have that bolster then it would be a shadow. I'm pretty sure the the top 4 could be considered slimline in that they aren't as wide/heavy as the bottom two you pictured. Those would be considered heavy trappers. I've taken to just calling them single blade trappers (although technically, it needs 2 specific blades to be a trapper).

I'm not smart enough to know if the Ben Hogan would be considered a single blade trapper, but here's mine in primitive bone:

Im reaallyy in love w/ every colour in the rainbow when it comes to the CASE XX PATTERNS. Id love to have the "wagon wheels" on some decent wall in my home. I mean every color.

My ultimate CASE XX would be thePearl handled version (excellsior grade)(?sp) trapper, or the same rig-up on a two blade hunter.

Doug, I agree, that pattern is my favourite in Barehead. More streamlined, uncluttered and better in-the-hand I reckon.

Actually, I prefer Barehead knives in general.

Thanks, Will

GEC #73 is the only one I have... needed some fixing because of its bladeplay. Now it´s closing like a tank and has a pretty nice snap... :)

@zombizon: Is that the Canyon Jig Bone?! Looks great on the large scales of the Backpocket.

It is the canyon jig. The chunkier slabs on the handle really make it feel great in hand. It's a little big for EDC, but I take it out and let it ride on the belt every now and again.
