Single Blade with Corkscrew?

I don't know a blessed thing about traditionals, but I'm thinking about changing up my carry some time down the road and I'd like some advice.

I'd like a nice, handsome traditional with a single blade and corkscrew. I know about the Opinel corkscrew knife, but it's a bit big and, if possible, I'd like to score some better steel.

My preferences are fairly flexible, but in general I'm looking for something around 4" closed or a bit larger, classy looks, I'd prefer a steel with wear resistance around 440C or better, but that's somewhat negotiable.

I ain't got the cash for customs, but I'm not looking to buy right away, so I could probably pinch some pennies and go up to around $150.

I'm hoping you fine gentleman can help me, as I get completely lost when people start discussing half stops and walk-and-talk.

Oh, almost forgot, more than one blade isn't a deal breaker, I just don't want anything overly bulky and I really only need one.

Laguiole come to mind immediately ;)
Bokes also produces a nice knife with a spear blade, bottle opener and corkscrew that I really like.
I will post pictures when I get back home :)

Opinel is my first choice. There are a lot of Laguiole options too.
Also there is the Victorinox Gourmet and maybe the Waiter too, if you don't mind the extra tool.

By the way, the Opinel still has the best steel of the lot - 12C27 Sandvik is a great steel for edc.

It may not be exactly what you're looking for but I've been eyeballing the Boker City Knife as of late. 12C27 steel and G10 scales make it a bit different than a lot of corkscrew knives out there.

A lot of French knives have a corkscrew. If the most usual stainless steel is 12C27, you find more and more upmarket steels like 14C28, 7Cr17MOV.
A few patterns

Much appreciate the help! Those French patterns are almost exactly what I'm looking for. Now to see if I can hunt one down in 14c28n as that steel is a definite favorite. :)

I'm a bit interested in one of these as a gift for a friend. If you end up getting one and have time for a quick update to this thread it would be appreciated... Thank you.

Again, not exactly what you are looking for, but Case has made a pretty nice knife with a corkscrew called the bartender's knife. I believe this pattern is currently in the vault, but they are still available.

Maybe GEC will come out with a Wine Scout Knife. :D:D

Wino Scout? :D Most cool I'll take a gross.:D:D:thumbup:

Not surprisingly, the French are streets ahead of everybody else with regard to knives and corkscrews. jolipapa's numerous pix are evidence of this, there are many beautiful and functional Laguiole style knives that sport a corkscrew and I'd opt for these, no question. You can get some beautiful file-work and natural materials with these, cutlery to be proud of.

I think it was the English writer, George Orwell, who said that the French produce both the best and the worst wine in the world, been my experience:eek::D:thumbup: and if I had a lottery win I'd invest in a French stocked wine cellar, good health!:)

Will do! I'll be honest, it'll likely be a bit before I pull the trigger, but I'll definitely post my thoughts when I snag one.

Oh, man, not what I'm looking for, but man does it look handy. I honestly don't know whether to thank you for posting this one or curse you, as you're starting to pull me into the traditional rabbithole.

If you don't ever get around to it, it's no big deal.

My friend of several decades can knock down a bottle of wine on a Saturday night like it's water. We give him grief about it because where I live there's just not a lot of guys that drink wine... I like wine, but for me it has it's place and that's usually with certain meals. My friend drinks it going to the lake, concerts,... it's just his drink of choice. He's always joking with me about carrying a "shank" lol, and anytime we are out and he needs a knife he knows I have one. I figure getting him a knife with a cork screw as a gift will maybe create some interest for him in "shanks" and maybe I will have a plastic cup of wine with him at the lake lol.

The Boker Evergreen Winzermesser comes to mind, as does F. Hartkopf.

My wife carries this daily, Olive wood and 440C, also has a bottle opener

The Boker shown by Kris is the knife I was referring to.
And there's plenty of options in French cutlery, as Jolipapa showed us.
For some reason, in Italy no traditional patterm has an added corkscrew...although our wine consumption is quite high.
As for wine...in some places it looks exotic...around here you're pretty much surrounded

I'm enjoying all of the corkscrew knives everyone. Thanks very much for showing them. This is another Boker.
