Vercors is the name of the pattern, the maker is Berthier cutlery of Valence (since 1820) on a design by François Nocca.
The Vercors is a part of the Alps, not far from Valence, who takes an important place for those interested in IInd WW history, as it was a high place of the Resistance fighting against nazis from 1943 till the end of july 1945 when outnumbered and poorly equipped maquisards (most were young men refusing the Compulsory Work Service https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_du_travail_obligatoire) battled against the whermacht with tanks, airplane, airborn troops.

The knife is very sturdy. There is a maker named Vercors, but he makes mostly fixed blades and tacticals. :)

Thanks for the clarification...always checking out some sites that deal in French knives and with all the different regions and makers and patterns it can be confusing.

I daydream of a GEC bartender's knife in stag... would be a beautiful thing indeed, except the shield that says "wine scout knife."
