Single dot date code on 503

Can anyone tell me what year this was made? Just the word 'Buck' followed by a single little dot. Not in the typical list of codes 1987 - 2012.

The dot isn't a date stamp on the 500 series model. Joe Housers history on them says that that a blade with one or more dots in the tang stamp means that the blade was fine stamped instead of conventionally blanked and that change took place sometime in the 80's, probably '84 or '85.
