Very cool looking sheath and very clean work. I like it a lot! I am guessing it is machine stitched and burnished, or did you do all this by hand?

That......is......phenomenal! :emmersed:

Question to anyone who can answer: how 'delicate' is snake skin against "normal" abrasion? Do you haveto coat it with anything to keep it from 'peeling' or 'flaking'?

Beautiful work. Perfect color scheme for the knife.

It's hand stitching only ;) I never make machine stitches, even on large bags ;)

Imho snake skin is one of the toughest. I never had any issues using it, and never had any complains from other users ;)

I've not had issues using snake. I've had an edc wallet in cobra for years. Each skin is going to be different, but it's not as fragile as I once thought. They make off the shelf products for reptile, but I've found my normal finish works very well.

Siper, awesome as always!

Thanks for the description. I was always afraid the skins would 'flake or shed' easily because I've never actually handled the skins.

Pretty kewl! How did you do it? Inside piece of leather + snake skin + small black leather strip for the contour?...

Once again, thanx for your appreciation :)

How did I do it? Very slowly and carefully ;)
But seriously, I took outer layer of the leather, and cut out the shape of the inlay, leaving the rest for the contour. Glued cobra skin on it with larger margin on snake skin, so I could glue it with the contour part. Then was sawing these two parts together. After that came the inner layer, glued to the one with inlay. And the rest was just like in most of the slipins ;) Meanwhile, the contour part was stained ;)

Thanks. If I am not mistaken, you stitched the cobra skin to the contour with the inside stitching, the outer stitching was for holding the inside and outside leather pieces, right? I say this because where you see the inside of the sheath, there's only one line of stitching...

Exactly ;) This way, cobra is secured with hidden stitches and glue, and there's no risk of cutting the thread inside the sheath ;) Besides, on the inside of the sheath, it looks much better with only outside stitching.

Did you use an aditional strip of leather (welt?) to protect the stiching from the blade edge inside? Did you glue the blade edge side of the sheath toghether before stitching? In that case, are the holes made before glueing or after? After seems more difficult but perfectly aligned, before is easier but more difficult to align while glueing...

I don't use glue but so far all my sheats are for folders and non-cutting stuff (wallets, card holders...).

(Sorry for the 3rd degree...)

:D

An additional leather weld/strip is always used for two reasons. One is protecting stitching from the blade. The other is positioning the blade inside the sheath.
This site is also always glued together before stitching, and the holes are made afterwards. For me it's much easier that way. It's a bit hard when U have to pierce through an inch of leather ;-)

Almost everyone says this. I haven't used glue in my "creations" so far. Will do it in the new ones, see how it works.

Thanks again!

I know some guys will use a drill press to make their stitch holes, some won't. I've not had the pleasure {?} :P of having to stitch through an inch of leather - hope I never do - but I know how difficult it is to go through 3 pieces of 12 oz leather and NOT have preformed holes....... :P :P

You guys that do the extra thick sheaths should get medals and monuments.

Tell you the truth, I used dremel drill only twice, ever ;) This one, as all of my works was pierced with hand aw :)
