Went out Friday afternoon to Sipsey Wilderness Area in Bankhead Ntl Forest, west of Cullman, AL and had a blast.
I've wanted to take the family there and hike this area for a bit now, and finally got a chance to do it. Of course the Izula that Jeff, Mike, and Shon were so generous to give to me arrived that day as well so I knew it was gonna be a fantasic trip and it was!

Saw this guy a little later. Eastern Diamondback I think.. I got within 10 feet and he never went into a coil and wasnt really that aggressive.

I agree with Carolina River Rat, it is the Southern Variation of the Timber Rattlesnake. Lighter in color than our northern variety. Usually less agressive than the Eastern Diamondback.

That looks simply amazing. I want to go now!!! Thanks for these!

What are ya cooking in the second picture? Looks great.

Is that a BK9 digging into the fat wood?

Nice Pics

I'm happy to live in Northern Québec we don't have any venemous snake here.

Ya Jake, it's a BK9. Only used it, the Izula and my RC-4 over the week end.
And cooking is chicken thighs with garlic, pepper and BBQ sauce. Turned out very good.

And thanks for the ID of the snake Riverrat. I've had bad luck I guess the last several outings bumping into venomous snakes.
