Damn! That's a snake! How long would a bit like that take to kill you?
It's not particularly dangerous unless you cant get to a doc within a couple hours. And it really wasnt aggressive at all. He just wanted what we all want. To be left alone and not tread on.

Awesome pictures - I've lived in the south for a few years, and always wanted to check out Sipsey. I've heard there is some quality rock climbing to be found in the park.

Great pics! The Sipsey is a great place to hike. I have a trip planned up there in a couple of weeks. I just hope I don't run across that Timber Rattler.

Great pics. Although, I really hate rattle snakes, they do look pretty cool.

Those last few pics are of Eye of the Needle, right?

My buds and I like to do some off-trail hiking out there. I was following a game trail on the ridge just west of Eye of the Needle and came face to snout with a HUGE wild boar. They're known for having a nasty temperament but this one just stopped, then got off the trail and gave me a wide berth as I watched him. About 15 yards behind me he got back on the trail, looked back at me then just went on his way.

One of my favorite hikes is to follow Riddle Creek as it cascades off the ridge down to where it meets Quillan Ck. Then we turn right and in about .25 mile there's a nice, flat pocket cove right next to the creek where we like to camp. There is a LOT of blowdown to navigate through up on those ridges though. These pics are from March '07.

Pocket Cove on Quillan

Obligatory Me shot (this was somewhere we camped along the Sipsey river)

Kinlock Bluff. This is a little further away, where the local Indian tribe held their council meetings. Lots of rock carvings here. There is a short, easy trail from the road to this spot.

Thanks Longlosthiker.
Thanks for sharing pics as well. That was my first time hiking lower sipsey and I really want to go back again.

That tent is my old Kelty Zen. It was a great tent, but after 10 years of serving me well it leaked while I was backpacking in Savage Gulf (TN). So I now use a Mountain Hardwear Halcyon 1.

Jake, I used to live in Plano, TX but I had to move away 'cause I like backpacking and camping too much and there's a shortage of that around Dallas. I got so desperate one time, I hiked around part of Lake Lavon. :D

I feel ya bro. Fortunatley I go to school in AR. LOTS of pretty places to go. I live like 15 minutes away from Plano. My cousins live there.
