Hello all,
First off thank you for your time and knowledge. I am just trying to figure out some info on how much hand work is done on the different levels of Shiro's. So far below is the best info i have gotten.

"My understanding is the there are 3 main levels; serial, custom division and full custom. The production knives are all very good with top components but are made with production in mind. No fancy millwork Polish etc. the custom division are mid-tech. I hear more hand fitting and assembly, though the production is so good that I see little difference. These do have more enhancements like gimping, polished cutting edges and fancier bearings. Full custom I understand that these are hand made by the man himself and signed in the liner."

is this accurate? I am questioning my desire to buy a Custom Division if its just a mid-tech for $1500-1700.

Cheers.

The serials are mass produced with many hours of hand finishing.

Every single Custom Division knife is made by a highly skilled member of the Shiro team from start to finish, hand tuning and hand fitting everything essentially making their own custom knife. Only the most skilled craftsmen are allowed to work on the Custom Division knives. Also, the CDs are serialized so they can track who made the knife. I wouldn't really classify the CD as midtech, since they are not outsourcing anything as everything is made in house. The CDs are basically custom knives by their own right.

You are correct about the full customs, Sergey makes them himself and signs it. Exotic steels and handle materials, duckfoot screws, different grinds/handle milling, etc
