Sister Thread - What's the most versatile SAK?

Use Goop on the scale. It won't come off again.

Thanks for the suggestion; I found a Huntsman on the street back in 1993, with one red scale missing. Popped the other scale off, cleaned up everything, and epoxied Philippine mahogany scales on it. Was my EDC, along with the Classic, for years. Got to the point that it had to be retired, was looking for another SAK, and lo & behold, found another Huntsman - black scales, one loose this time - in the road, same as last time. (How weird is that? The SAK gods must like me.) I got to this one before it was too messed up, and it cleaned up to almost new, but I'm going to have custom micarta scales put on it.

So far, I actually managed to use every blade/implement on the Huntsman, for various jobs.

SAK lust. It's a wonderful thing . . !

thx - cpr

Most versatile would be an enormous monstrosity like the Swisschamp.

Agreed. It seems almost no one here is answering the original poster's question about versatility. More tools = more versatile, period. The thing with SAKs is that we're not generally looking for the most versatile -- no, we're looking for the SAK with the best combination of versatility and economy. In other words, the SAK with all the tools you want, and no more. Hey, all SAK talk is good talk, but I think when you're discussing versatility you have to choose the SAK with the most tools.

By the way, this whole notion of sacrificing function or versatility for additional economy (meaning size/convenience, not price) is central to almost all our our knife carry decisions. If it wasn't, we'll all carry fixed blades and a massive SAK or multi tool at all times. Instead, we agree to take on the "risk" that a chosen SAK or slipjoint of some kind will be sufficient to get us through each day. Instead of carrying a large locking folder, I generally take the "risk" of only carrying a quality slipjoint pocketknife that I am comfortable using.

For the record, today I'm "risking it" that a Case peanut and a Leatherman Squirt P4 will let me survive to see another day. Somehow I think I'll be ok. :D
