Six Days in Kings Canyon

Just as I expected, beautiful place and your great photography. I really regret not coming along but I had too many obligations here at home. Maybe next time!

Impressive shots again.

I half expected an inclusion of the heat being the battle on the way up. AMS, unpleasant.

Definitely jealous. That is a gorgeous area. We went 6 years ago, haven't had a chance to go back. Looks like you had a great time.

wow... awesome pics John... that is such a gorgeaous area... i really need to get out there one of these days...

Absolutely stunning shots. While camping - were you using stoves for all your cooking? What was used? I'm interested because you had quite a few folks in your party. I'm assuming no fires allowed? Looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing your excellent photos!

Fires are not allowed above 10,000' in Kings Canyon, so we had to use stoves for everything. When cooking with others, I use an MSR Windpro with a Jetboil GCS pot - it gives the outstanding efficiency of the standard Jetboil while having the stability and versatility of the Windpro. One of the other guys on the trip had an MSR Reactor, and my Windpro/GCS pot combo boils water just as fast, and also turns down to a nice simmer, which can't be done with the Reactor.

For solo cooking, I have a Snow Peak Giga and a Brunton IB pot set. For winter camping I have an Optimus Nova.
