Taught my third class over at the Guilford Art Center...here are some pics.
I'll be teaching another class the weekend of April 26-27 and then I will be doing a set of 3 thursday night knifemaking open forges in June.
I have talked with the staff at the art center and am looking foward to getting more involved in teaching over there.
Thanks for looking.
Mace

Too cool! Is anyone aware of any knifemaking Instucters in Central Illinois? I'm in need of a bad influence...

Very cool Mace, you are doing a great thing up there teaching that class! Looks like everyone had a great time, that leaf blade is very cool!

They look so young and innocent. Little do they know theyve been bitten!
Welcome them to the family for me will ya?
Very cool about the instructor gig.

I'm in Watseka, about 40 miles east of Chenoa on 24, 60 miles north of Champaign, 40 miles South of Kankakee.
You are also right in the stompin' grounds of the Illinois chapter of ABANA (Artist Blacksmith Assn. of N. America.)
Look me up in June if you need some help.
There is also Journeyman Smith south of Springfield, Craig Camerer.

I wish their was something like that in Chicago. I wish I could learn the art of knifemaking from someone as talented as yourself....

Thanks Karl,
I might take you up on that... are you hosting a class? I checked out your website.. Your knives look fantastic! I'll look into ABANA also... I'm really just getting started, and VERY green, but I'm learning. At any rate, it's nice to know there are good resources in the area.

Mace, Mace, Mace....you've got to quit flooding the market with all these makers! Great job!!!!

all i want for christmas...

a master knifemaker (preferably jerry busse... stop laughing this is my wish list i will write what i want) to move into the house next to mine and teach me to make knifes... hahaha yup but thats not going to happen.

kudos to you for getting out there and showing people how to make knifes. that takes balls. i can't teach worth the Sh1t... there would be hammers flinging and people disappearing into the forge.

i wish i could find anyone who makes knives within throwing distance,
is Connecticut close to Alberta hahaha?

cheers

Wow! Some of them are pretty young! High school-something? Wish somebody taught me when I was that age. Having somebody show you how it's done is worth more than reading a thousand pages.
I'm lucky, as I recently had one of the best italian damascus makers teach me how to do damascus, and a C.I.C. Master Bladesmith taught me how to grind and forge better.
Now, If only I could get a trip hammer... :p
The leaf blade is really cool.

Sharp Newbie:

I know you mentioned this in a thread before, but I was to lazy to reply.

Alberta is full of good makers – just not on this forum.
I don’t know how close you are and how much time they have to help you but…

I would look up the websites of these makers.

Ed Storch has hosted symposiums in the past during the summer
(Basically a “Hammer In”) – wish I was close enough to make it…

That's way cool Mace, keep up the good work! I really like seeing women making knives, because I know they'll bring a fresh perspective to design and to fitting em up. Thanks for sharing, and good luck to all you new makers! Bruce is right - you're bitten. ;)

I really wish they had something like this in the south chicago suburbs!

I've always been intrigued by knifemakers and really want to get into it, but am a complete newbie so that doesnt help much...
