Me likey Andy, great work!
And 0-1 is one heckuva good steel regardless of all the new high powered steels! It rusts kinda easy but who cares as most people take better care of their knives than to let them rust to the pitting stage anyway.
My custom I made for myself back in '74 is 0-1, had it hardened to 62 Rc by the heat treating shop next door to the company I worked for at the time, convex edge of course. It wasn't really a chopper but I did chop down a 4" sapling one night to try and get the Land Cruiser unstuck after my b-i-l said, "Four wheel drive? We don't need no stinking four wheel drive."
:grumpy:
Anyway chopped down the sapling with absolutely no edge chipping at all. A few days afterwards as deer were being skinned, none of them mine
one of the guys was having trouble with a knife that was dull.
I told him to try mine and he did and after the first cut he started being very careful, I asked him, "Impressed?" He said, "No more like scared."
My son has it now and it hasn't been sharpened since before I cut down that sapling.
