Looking for a size comparison between Bucks 442 444 and 446. Thank you for the help. TheGent

Gotta love these lockbacks: Top to bottom: 446 (Goliath), 442 & 444 with the Idaho State outline tang stamp! Note that only the 442 comes with a pocket clip (tip down carry).

Thank you! My first knife was a 442. Carried it from 7th grade through high school. Still use it. Got the Buck itch and figured I'd start with collecting the older Bucklites.

The Legacy Buck models are a rich gold mine of collector heaven. Great idea.

Lets see that street-wise 442. Pretty please. :)

oregon,

You wouldn't happen to be able to have pics comparing the thickness of the 442 and 422 would you?

oregon, may I also make a pic request, I know how you hate to take pics of knives ;)
Would it be possible to see the 444 compared to a 501 and a 424 ?

Also, the Goliath is a different offering than the first 426's. Its a big looking knife. DM
Ok, he was not asking about the 426.

It is more than possible sit it is a labor of love for me. I love this stuff. Red 444 v custom 501 v orange 424:

Thanks Oregon. It seems the 442 isn't quite as thin as I thought.

One last question, do the handles on the 444 tend to be a bit softer? I only ask because I had one for a short time, and there seemed to be quite a bit of flex in the handle scales. I'm just curious if that's the norm.

Thank you so very much oregon, that confirms what I thought...and your photos are allways apreciated ;)

You are very perceptive and correct. I see no liner in the 442. None. I can flex sides of the the handle, pinch them together, until they touch each other. It does take both hands, pinching sides of the handles toward each other, using my thumbs and first fingers. The black resin handle material is pretty hard and durable. There is just no stiffining metal liner inside the handle scales.

I'm happy to be of service and thank you for the kind words.

I missed the OKCA mini meet in Eugene today (sulk). Working (sulk some more). However, I hope to make it for the annual OKCA big meet in mid-April. I'm hunting and pecking around for a vintage folder from the first half of the last century. Looking for a knife at a large knife meet is like looking for a needle in a stack of needles and, not to mention, it all looks interesting...

Will do asap. Net is screwed up at the girlfriends house. I'm headed home tonight. I just cleaned her up last week. Took it down to the machine shop re-brushed and re-ground the edge. Not that I needed to. I think I'll show off my old 180 for you guys too.

Thank you oregon. I think that's the one thing holding me back from picking up another 444 and 442. I love the fact they're drop point blades, but I kinda wish the handles were a bit stiffer.

Great pics Oregon... :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you kindly and you know Armand if you give me sweet talk you get, wait for it.... more photos! Hoorawwwwwwwwwww! :)

Cool. If you dig the knife then maintenance/enhancement is a labor of love. Something to sooth the inner man in us, like meditation or strong drink or a hike in the woods or...

I've never had either knife fail, lock issue, because of flex. In fact I think that the small flex in these liner-less small wonder lockbacks could even enhance my grip and give me feedback during the cutting process due to the flex. The handles on these two are outrageously anatomical and fit my fingers like a hande in a glove so they enable great control of the knife while providing barriers to your finger(s) sliding forward onto the blade's cutting edge during push cuts. More for me, Ha! :)

The all-time heavy weight champion of thin is the stainless steel 521. I can't fail to mention it in this thread so here it is:

Ooh..that's nice. I never knew such a thing as a 521 existed. Yet another one to add to my list.

I never said I wouldn't pick up another 444 or 442, just that I was hesitant. Don't go hoarding them all for yourself now ;)
